Just read the critiques from Bath by Martin Sanders, was quite shocked to read what he wrote at the beginning, about all the nasty letters etc etc he received to try and influence his decision.

If this is true - how sadly desperate are some people :(

Dont think Ive seen Martins critique is it in Dog world or Our Dogs ?

Some people ,unfortunatley will try any thing to intimidate a judge , some have letters and pressies sent to them with pictures of their winning dogs ( with them on of course ) I know of one retired exhibitor who regually rang judges up just to tell them all that his dog had been winning

Fortunately they are very few and far between ( I think )

It was in Dog World 2 weeks ago without the introductory bit about the letters. It came out in Our Dogs today (for those who get it delivered).

it might not be common in whippets, but it certainly is in other breeds. i know one judge who was bought a diamond ring before crufts and the purchaser won bob. :- "

Im doing Midland whippet , and Im not keen on `Solitairs` < I however do like rubies and my ring size is K ( I havnt realy got a clue what size I am , but I can get it made to fit ) :- " :clown: :huggles:

Ok only kidding

I prefer Emeralds

Sounds good to me!!

I've always wondered what people actually did to influence judges. I've heard many a story over the years about sexual favours but a diamond ring? The three CC's would turn out to be quite an expensive little venture then wouldn't it?

How does one even know that the judge will accept the bribe and not, instead, report you to the Kennel Club for attempting to bribe him/her? Too much of a risk to take I reckon. Your money, your reputation and your future in the dog world could all be down the drain.

Why DON'T (honest) judges report the people who do this I wonder? I've never heard of anyone here being thrown out of their state body for doing this before - yet, as sure as eggs, it goes on. Perhaps if a few people were made examples of then it would stop a few others in their tracks, and the decent people in the dog world would have more of a chance of their dog winning what it was worth.

i can remember the only case that ever came to the papers, it was in the news of the world.the guy got it on tape and everything.sadly he had to leave the country due to death threats and moved to france and as far as i know he never came back.the person who bought the judge a diamond ring was a good friend of the judge so i guess he knew she wouldnt grass on him.it was common knowledge in the breed i was in at the time. ;)

I can't afford a diamond ring, would the ring-pull from a tin of pepsi be acceptable? (w00t)

Now why should I want some thing I have no use for (w00t)

From what Jo put at the begining I think she said they were `nasty `letters not bribes (w00t)

Ok ,so if you dont put me up Ill smack you in the n**s type of thing maybe  :b . Its any ones guess I suppose

I think it's really sad. What sense of achievement and pride can you get if you know you've bribed your way to it?? :(

I have seen one of the letters, and of course this is no place for me to discuss it :- "
