Hello, found this site whilst looking for a whippet, been a member since May but this is only my second posting.

I am a member of two coursing clubs, for which I do the hare dispatching and currently do not run a greyhound. I beagle when I can and throughout the summer I follow a pack of mink hounds.

The question was, will the whippet coursing clubs still be coursing this season?

what coursing clubs are you a member off.

Welcome to k9 Wayne have you got a whippet? if so post some pics & introduce him/her

Thank you for the welcome. Little chance of posting any pictures I'm not that well versed in computers as yet. I do have a whippet, a bitch, 5 months old, her name is Miffy she's brindle half white collar, white chest 4 white paws and white snip on nose. She's the first one we've had.

Forgive me for being so cynical Wayne but if you were a memeber of both these clubs surely you would know that both the afformentioned activities are now both illegal!

Just hope you have had your head in the sand over the last year and aren't trying to provoke some illegal responses :(

Hope I am wrong!!!

Please don't tell me off again mark  just seems an odd question from somebody who is involved so much in two clubs!

If I am wrong then sorry Wayne and a warm welcome to you.

No telling off from me Murphy  I have been pondering with the same Thoughts?.

like yourself I'm hoping it's a mistaken posting, i'm sure theres no one on this forum or on K9 as a whole who would continue to course Hares or condone such actions now that there is a ban on Coursing.

Wayne if your post is genuine and Murphy & mysewlf our being a little over sensitive them please accept my appologie but if you are a true coursing/working dog man then i'm sure you more than understand our concerns.

I more than understand your concerns and it is a genuine posting, maybe a little clumsy. As I mink hunt and beagle, these are still continuing ableit within the law.

Coursing with one club at least is going to continue either using a blue chip hare or a field trial? is going to be devised. Another club I believe is reforming as a rabbit coursing club and started walking up as appose to being driven.

Try Northern Ireland if you want coursing hares. England if you want to course a lure, does that interest you?

Northern Ireland would be too far for me to go, as for lure coursing I have only ever seen this at country shows with lurchers and terriers.

thanks for the invite , i live in the nelson area, i had not considered lure coursing.Does it encourage opening up when running live quarry.quaility of typing gone down as the wife has left the room

Some Open up while lure coursing but most dont. there again some open up on live?.

i smell a rat, you allready have a whippet? and you are looking on here for another?. i would imagine no legitamate coursing clubs will ever run live hares again thanks to the anti's. regards

I can understand your reluctance to divulge info. but I find your posting quite antaganistic, I didn't say I was looking for another whippet, if you read my postings more closely you would get the gist of what I am asking and saying as for ligitamate coursing clubs running live hares it is a matter of finding a loop hole as I have stated I have been mink hunting all through this summer hunting within the law. I have also been out beagling this season again within the law it is about pushing boundaries and finding a way.

ooops, sorry if you think my post was antaganistic.but after asking such a question without having any credability on here you couldnt expect anything else. sorry if i offended you. sparky

Wayne,

This isnt being antaganistic, if you already belong to two coursing clubs and go out with a pack of hounds you would understand the irritant of having a group of dole'ies ruining a nice day out in the country with your dogs. Therefore I cannot believe you would have expected people to document on a open forum that they were going to break the law or where and when the law was being broken.

Loopholes do not exist until you have tested them in a court of law.

If you did want to go legal coursing ireland is really easy to get to less than an hour by plane and for peanuts enjoy a weekend break with the wife.

Steady, I have admitted my question was a little clumsy but I have not asked for any people to document where they going to break the law or when, it was a general question. Most hunts as with the coursing clubs are looking at a way of ticking over or still participating within the law.

Sorry m8, been a long day. Going back to your original question

will the whippet coursing clubs still be coursing this season?
There will be regular lure coursing events all around england which will be great fun and luckly nobody can protest about a piece of cloth getting bitten. You can pick up the dates from this forum.

Have fun.

Hello Wayne. I think that you have raised a valid point re: coursing clubs ticking over etc. I personally feel a little disappointed that there has not been more dialogue from the likes of The Countryside Alliance et al, regarding ways of continuing hare coursing within the law. I fully understand that it is of course very difficult to see a way forward in this respect and I personally cannot offer any positive thoughts but the silence from the bodys who I thought represented our interests has been deafening. The coverage on hunting though as we all know has been vast and I cannot help feeling a bit miffed that I and many other hare coursing enthusiasts attended rallies and demonstrations, standing shoulder to shoulder with the hunting fraternity, at the behest of the CA etc, only to find ourselves totally disenfranchised and forgotten at the end of it all.

Anyway Wayne. Welcome to K9. You will find most people friendly even the ones who are risking serious injury having been choked by their halos!

Best wishes

Chris
