Hi everyone, as you know it cost us £200 to stage the Tytone at Stainforth.

We asked them to quote us a price to stage the bend championships and they telephoned me this afternoon, the cost would be £550

They would put on more bar and cafeteria staff, and the video camera would be in use to record the days racing and you would be able to watch it on the TV in the bar. If everyone pays the entry fee to the stadium which I think should be £3

then that would help towards the costs.

It is the members money that would fund this event so you are all entitled to your opinion as to whether you think it is worth it, those of you who attended the Tyrone will know what the standards were like.

I promised you all that I would keep you updated so these are the facts

WHAT DO YOU THINK ?

KIND REGARDS dOREEN (BWRA SEC )

personally i think £550 is too much the BWRA loose enough money on opens.

I THINK THE VENUE IS FIRST CLASS. BUT £550 JUST A BIT OVER THE TOP, IS THE PRICE NOT NEGOTIABLE, THEY MAY BE PAYING FOR MORE STAFF BUT THEY WILL MAKE A TIDY SUM IN THE RESTAURANT /BAR AS KINSLEY DID.

IT WOULD SUIT ME IF ALL NONE PED RACING WAS AT THIS VENUE. IT IS 10 TIMES BETTER THAN ANY BEND TRACK I HAVE EVER RACED AT.. AND THIS INCLUDES KINSLEY... OUT OF ALL THE RACES. I NEVER SAW ANY DOGS HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH REGARDS TO THE TRACK. AND REGARDING BEVERAGES, THE TYRONE HAD A BAR AND CAFE, AS GOOD AS ANYWHERE ELSE THAT THE BWRA HAS USED IN THE LAST FEW YEARS.

doreen is the restaurant opening for sunday lunches as kinsley do, if so i think 3.00 is ok

this is what most people would like, i know kinsley was favoured because you could get a good meal not just fried stuff

is the cost that high because u are payin for more staff cudnt members do the work???

but i think its bit expensive but is needed!!

it shut at 3 at the tyrone sum people never left till six!

and the championships will b a longer day!!

I,M NOT SO SURE THEY WOULD LET YOU BEHIND THE BAR PIGLET.

I do think its a bit over priced, but as the bwra do not pay out prize money at there championships and the £3 entrance fee would all contribute to the £550, but then theres also the cost of a vet and testing to consider.

I suppose its a bit late now to be asking members as the champs are only 6 weeks away, and it would be to hard to find another track available for them dates

Best the bwra committee decides

WESTHOUGHTON IS AVAILABLE IF NEEDED AT HALF THE COST. SURROUNDINGS ARE NOT AS POSH BUT FACILITIES,HELP AND WELCOMING STAFF ARE AS GOOD AS ANYWHERE RACERS CAN SEE FOR THEMSELVES ON SUNDAY.

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THE CHAMPS WERE HELD AT STAINFORTH BUT NOT AT THAT COST. I,D SOONER SEE TH MONEY PAID OUT AS PRIZE MONEY

never been to westhoughton but no way u can change from stainforth

think of the dogs stainforth is the best track we have ever raced at

why leave??

We enjoyed the track (can't comment on the bar and food as I never use them). As Debbie asked are they opening the restaurant ? They would make a killing on Sunday meals as I think 9 out of 10 would have a lunch. If so then £3.00 would be OK by us but if not then I also agree that it is a little steep ...

Well an extra pound could be worth A MILLION !!! (That is if you play the lottery) :p

It's OK for people coming in one's and two's to race but if family groups with older children come together then an extra pound per head can amount to a lot of money.

Then again I suppose with this little time until the Championships we have very little choice.

Julie and Steve kindly called round a few nights ago to look at Coral-

After telling them how impressed we were with the Meadow Court Stadium-Stainforth (they've been there on many occasions too) they agreed that the track surface is superb- but went on to say that after all the stadiums they have visited-the Westhoughton track surface is probably as good as any-

Encouraging to hear eh? for all those who haven't been to Westhoughton before

And this is from ones who do know tracks /and surfaces

whippet racing loss greyhound racing gain

steve

Sounds steap but when you think of all the staff the owner has to pay to provide the restaurant / bar & extra rooms open upstairs for at least 5 hours then i think it's worth £3 of anyone's money. I'd rather pay the extra & have a good standard of track to be running on.

I do not find that a charge of £3-00p to be excessive for an afternoon’s sport, those who go regularly to Greyhound racing pay £5-00p entrance fee for a nights racing of about 15 races, so compared with that I think it is very favourable.

The charge of £550-00p for the hire of the facilities is another matter.

The stadium has to make a profit or there wouldn’t be any racing, but a jump from £200 to £550 seems to be rather a big jump in price considering that the stadium will make bigger profits on the amount of food and drink that they sell.

No doubt that it will require extra staff to open up the extra facilities but these facilities will make extra profits.

It will be a very well attended meeting so profits are almost certainly going to be higher than the Tyrone meeting

They are to video the whole meeting and no doubt they will sell the video’s at a profit or are we to assume that in someway the profits are to be split between the b.w.r.a. and the stadium and are the b.w.r.a. having a percentage of the profits from the stadium food and drink takings. If the b.w.r.a. are not having any percentage of any profits made then I find the charge of £550-00p to be very excessive.

wait till u get up in the rooms upstairs the view is great

isnt it mr pockett u came up with me

the bwra can make the money back dead easy a couple of raffles blind cards at championships run bingo games or summit before asfordby champs i dunno the money can be made bk easily

john ure a rite u pay bout £5 and u are only watchin flappin greyhounds not championship class like u wud watch at stainforth

i dont see the problem with payin the money for the track its top class...

some answers to some of the questions about the bend champs.

I did try to get the cost down to £450 but they would not agree

I also asked about them opening up '' THE CARVERY'' to do meals but they said

that anyone wanting to have a meal in there would have to book in advance and if there were not enough people booking meals it would not be worth while, and it would also mean putting in extra staff.

If a family with youngsters under 16yrs of age come to the champs they will not have to pay for those youngsters to get into the stadium, of course we will rely on the mums and dads to be honest about the childrens age.

from some of the info i have got back it would seem that although we all think it is quite costly it would not be a good idea to change venues now as many of the dogs have already had a run round the track at the Tyrone, so for this years champs I think we need to pay the cost, then look around for next years bend venues. the more I think about it I think we can cover most of the cost through the gate money and some one has offered to go round with a couple of scratch cards if we want them.

The general feeling seems to be that it was such a good standard of venue we should stick with it.

regards Doreen

i dont mind paying just one extra pound each imo the track was spot on as were the facilities and if the upstairs bar is open that wud be great. :D
