Does anyone know if I could have my dogs cleared on a Greyhound track for bend racing (with a correct official around) or would my pups have to clear on a WCRA affiliated clubs bend to be signed off ??? ........Just one of those questions I've pondered   (w00t)

2 completely different tracks altogether IMO, surely it'd make a bit of a difference seeing as you guys run to an inside hare? and most greyhound tracks are outside hare. Not that it's got feck all to do with me

Just my humble opinion but potentially could it not be dangerous if the dog gets used to running an outside hair, and is then drawn off the inside off an inside lure? :b

I thought that dogs had to be running on an affliated track in order to be cleared. But I could be wrong.

 all ......I was just wondering ........I thought we had to be cleared at a WCRA affiliated club first, and I guess that makes sense due to the different surface/lure type  .......ALL of my lot have been cleared this way, but my friend has a fab schooling track, so I wondered as I could get loads of practice in there if these pups of mine would be ok to sign off from here (though at 7 weeks old at the mo, do you think i'm planning ahead too far pmsl ;) )

You could try and talk the WCRA into running on a "proper" bend track, then you'd have the added advantage lol

Being new to the position of the race manager, it would be helpful to know if you can pass dogs on a greyhound track with the relevant officials as everyone knows its very wet up North  and so it is sometimes hard to get a bend up (w00t) At the Northern we are lucky enough to have the facilities to set up a bend and are also lucky enough to have a greyhound track around the corner, as with the last bend we set up we were in a bit of panic that we may have not been able to run one due to weather, were as if I knew were we stand with regards to passing on a greyhound track it would have been a lot easier. Any info appreciated

Hi Barry,
The rule on passing dogs for a bend is that they must be passed at an affiliated club, the rules dont state wether it must be done at the clubs own ground just that it must be done at a club affiliated to the WCRA.

The Lancashire recently ran a club meeting at Westhoughton with officials from an affilated club  present to act as line judges, 1/2 way judges ect.

At the last WCRA talk in this topic was descussed, the committee stated that any dog that is already cleared on the straight only has to compleat 1 solo trial on a bend to be cleared to race on bends.

unfortunatly the talk in was poorly attended, some clubs not even having a representative there?.

IMO it should be compulsary for clubs to send reps and I think each club should be represented on the committee.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

As a complete novice I could be putting a major foot in it here, but I totally agree with your point about representation.

On a completely different track (scuse the pun (w00t) ) I managed a football team for many years and would have been fined £75 for each "no-show" had I not attended the 2 meetings a year. I was able to send a substitute in my place, but each team MUST supply a representative. This not only ensured that each team had a true picture of the meeting rather than personal interpretation of minutes, but also meant that everyone was able to participate in each debate, which is definitely the way it should be IMHO

I am not suggesting that the fine should be this big, and I have no idea of the frequency of the meetings that you are referring to, but it is only fair that everyone attend. You never know, one day :- "

Well I've been told that it was a very well attended meeting so much so that there wasn't much room. Odd how different people's recollections can be. :)

why have 2 post been took off
I don't know Barry. There was another post after mine earlier. I looked at the board and thought that's funny suddenly I'm the last poster. I guess that someone who is able to remove posts removed them. It wasn't me. Maybe the poster changed their mind about posting them on here. Who knows such are the mysteries of the universe etc etc.

I am one of those people who prefer for rules to be clarified so I've asked Paul Chappell of the WCRA for clarification. I asked these two questions. I have been told that I can quote him.

1) That a dog can be cleared for racing on a bend at a Greyhound track.

2) That a dog who has been previously cleared for racing on a straight can be cleared for racing on a bend with 1 solo trial on a bend.

His replies are:-

Q1/No NO No No No No No No No . Only at an affiliated track i.e one of the clubs listed as being affiliated.

Q2/No No No No Nio No No No No .No one said that at the meeting, and would it not be quite foolish for anyone to think that their dog is ready for bend racing after a solo run, unless we are now going to have 1 dog races.

I must say that I am v reassured at Paul's replies. The thought of dogs being cleared for racing on a bend having only done 1 solo trial is (w00t) .

i have not been in racing for that long but as i inderstand it a dog must run 3 runs with 3 other dogs to get cleared, i maybe am wrong. if i am please tell me.

Thats true for being cleared for racing but according to the minutes of the Talk-In "the bend approval in the passport is a proving trial, not a clearance." Its up to the club official who is signing the passport to be satisfied that the dog will run a bend properly. I think its really assumed that the dog has already been cleared for racing on the straight (i.e. doesn't interfere) before it runs a bend.

The stickers for straight and bend clearing in the passport were only bought in a few years ago (well it doesn't seem like long ago anyway :b ) because some people were running their dogs at a bend open when they had never run a bend before and were doing things like running staight on or jumping the inside fence and crossing the track.
