The Gem's Lad Bend Open will be held at Portsmouth Greyhound Stadium on the 7 October (see advert in Octobers Whippet News).

I have been informed by the Management that the track is spending a considerable amount of money on the running surface the week prior to the event banking the bends etc., on what I consider is already a first class track.

Hopefully, because of the expenditure in hiring bend tracks in the South over the winter period some money can be raised to enable the South of the Country to hold bend racing.

would love to have come but Tillie is off for another 3 weeks yet

excellent track Portsmouth good luck with your open :luck:

Well done Sheila and good luck

We were made very welcome on our last visit to the outer corners of the universe (sorry I mean the south :p ) :D .

Will see what I can do about Mum's work dates for next month though it will be a day trip, the poor southampton relatives managed two people and two dogs but I think with four people and four dogs we'd be sleeping in the shed !!!

Going to be a very busy day for us then.

Intend to go to Maidstone for the open, drive back, get camera re charged, then out again to this event.

I presume you're allowed to take photo's????????????

(No Flash obviously.)

Thanks very much sheila sue

I thought I should mention that racing will mainly be out of whippet traps in case you are coming and have no whippet trap floorboard with you

.

It has been pointed out to me by a Southern Region member that have a copy of the whippet news that have omitted the scratch dogs for the above open, the classes will be 36lb, 40lb and N.L. run to supreme plus veteran scratch if required.

Would you be kind enough to inform anybody you now might be attending, must be loosing the plot.

Sheila

Can someone (pretty please) let me know what time it all starts (Obviously weigh in by 1130), cost of admission for spectators etc, Can I get close enough to the bends for photography?

We have an older lady in our neighbourhood with a whippet, who may like to come along as well, and offered to post through her door, any info I can glean re this sunday.

Thanks in advance.

JD

Hopefully, if all goes according to plan the racing should start between 12.30 to 1 p.m. Entry to Stadium will be between 11.45 and 12.15. I feel pretyy sure you will be able to take photos on the bend.

Hope this helps
