Bend Racing

Just want to make it clear, Steve hasn't discussed the Bend Derby event with me or (to my knowledge) discussed it with fellow racers at Wessy.I'm sure his question can be taken in the genuine manner he's presenting it.

Naturally, I and others were dissapointed about the Derby being moved to Highgate however, We didn't query the matter because we presumed a valid excuse would be given.

Those who were dissapointed felt it was better for all to do something more positive rather than nit-pic about the loss of an event.

As such we are currently busy chasing sponsors and mediating an event that hopefully will gain a lot of media attraction for the benefit of whippet racing and Westhoughton Greyhound Stadium but will also be considered a prestigous event in it's own right.
pm me ill help you with some sponsorship :D
CAN YOU GET SOME SONSERSHIP FOR THURROCK AS WELL
   nice one pat
nice one steve you doing some sponsoring
oh yer the jan keeble
do you sponsor that fair play ill give her a call
YOU HELPT TO GET THE SPONSOR BUT YOU DONT SPONSOR IT BUT THATS MORE THAN MOST PEAPLE DO
MY COMMENT TO RAY REGARDING SPONSORSHIP WAS SAID TONGUE IN CHEEK ALL CLUB MEMEBRS AT THURROCK INCLUDING RAY AND HIS FAMILY GIVE GENEROUSLY TO OUR CLUB. THE PROBLEM WITH THE WEB THE TONE OF VOICE CANNOT BE HEARD AND COMMENTS CAN BE MIS INTERPTED. I HOPE THIS NOW PUTS AN END TO ANY FURTHER MISUNDERSTANDING.

NGR tracks are very nice, but lets get real  our main organisations can't afford to pay the price these tracks are charging, so I'm sure clubs would struggle to come up with the fee.

CAN I ASK WHAT THE OUTCOME WAS WITH COVENTRY STADIUM?

HAVENT SEEN JOHN FOR AGES NOT BEEN UP THERE

FOR A FEW WEEKS

THE LAST I DID HEAR THINGS WHERE MOVING ON

AND HE WAS VERY INTERESTED IN STAGING EVENTS

AFTER A CONVERSATION WITH HIM I WAS UNDER

THE IMPRESSION THERE WAS GOING TO BE A MEETING

IN SEPTEMBER
That would be a good meeting great track coventry taking whippet racing forward price may be. Problem stu
im not doubting the cost might be to high lyndon

I will just endorse this reply -I would be very supprised if any one seriously would think i could be influenced by any otherpersons views on any matter-whatsoever--always been soley responsible for my views/on everything---plus i am not at all shy ---or backward at comming forward--

but thanks jacs ---musical N--s i would require help with -lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :b :b :b :b

The reason i questioned the wisdom/? or reasons was simply that late on last year and again earlier this year i was led to believe by some who are living much closer to this venue there was a strong possiblity Highgate was to be sold ---and as we have seen before panic finding other venues at short notice---

Just like to say thankyou to Linda Broom for her help/guidence in my education pointing out that TBC means

to be confirmed

i would never have managed to work that one out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just one last thing before i finish ---Kenny was right Joe/Easington many years ago was putting lots into helping whippet racing and was promised lots of things in return ask him just what his reward was ---

The last really good meeting was with cammping/entry to greyhound racing/and prize money which if memory serves well was won by Steve/Julie Bateson --- £000? three figures i think--Joe has to my mind always done us proud---

spot on fletch

as you quoted the NNWRF events in your post Steve I assumed you were reffering to the preliminary NNWRF dates/venues 2010 which are as yet to be confirmed my reply was also to let others know that no venues have yet been booked bend or straight tracks but we do need look at attendances and costs

As for Easington great venue BUT it was only available on Saturdays and again this affected the turn out

the NNWRF have 6 bend events to spread around and our committee have to look at the wider picture taking into account costs of stadium/ trophies/advertising etc and look to where gets the best attendance

in reply to Stu regarding Coventry John is very keen to have whippet racing and were looking to us to stage events there weekly all year round which is impossible as we race straights in the spring/summer time, they are looking to utilise the stadium to increase proffits, we wouldn't be prepared to dump the flapping tracks such as Highgate on these grounds but we are discussing the possibillity of staging an event in Sept 2010 as Portsmouth is due to close later this year also if discussions go well with the BWRA and Coventry it could be a ideal venue for their bend champs, its all still on the table yet though so hope people don't start reading too much into it at this stage

just spoke to David at Highgate and there is absolutely no truth in the rumour that Highgate is to be sold or closed

i don't do bends,so cant really have much to say on the topic but easington is one of the best around and the owner joe will bend over backwards to help the whippets

BUT WONT BEND ENOUGH TO LET THEM HAVE MEETINGS ON A SUNDAY ANYMORE.

good morning maurice long time no see mate see u soon tho mate.

eassington is a great track and i love to race my dogs there but sundays are out of the question as i think joe has enough on with the trialing in the morning and a full race card in the evening and lets face it thats is bread and butter so i think its a good gesture from joe allowing us to race there on saturday

imo the ngr tracks are asking to much money nowdays to hold a event there even tho it great to race on them

although i dont bend race i was wondering why they r nearly always on sundays? during the summer straight opens r sats and suns so why r most bend opens on a sun? just curious

Maybe a lot of folk work on a Saturday,Carole.Or are busy after a week of work.Sunday does seem the best option.

I've got a question though. How much is the average cost(if there is an average  )for staging an event at an NGRC track?

Fuel prices rays that's why need to get a bend track central it cost me £40/50 pounds before any enterances but I think fed are been fair by running this open give south bend open I hope to be there god willing top track .

TRACKS COST 200 TO 300 POUNDS THINK HARLOWS 250

THATS WHY MOST MEETINGS SHOULD BE HELD AT HIGHGATE THATS CENTRAL.

We've been here before haven't we lol -_-

Whilst i agree it is only fair the Southerners get a fair crack at the whip and opens are held within a reasonable travelling distance (ie Gems Lad, South Coast, Keeble Weekend, NNWRF GJ & Fordingbridge Open), staging a Golden Jacket event in Portsmouth is making a mockery of a status (Sup Nch) that was once prestigious. As it is now dogs needing their last weight class will be at Portsmouth on Sunday where there is less dogs running thus more chance of a win.

How an open can be taken away from Westhoughton on the basis that the turnout was poor doesn't wash with me when an event at Portsmouth (which has always stuggled to get half a reasonable attendance and relys on people donating their winnings back) is going ahead for the third year.

Whilst i have no issue's with Highgate and all my dogs run well there i feel it's bad management to have all our eggs in one basket and it's now left to the BWRA to look into finding an alternative track for their one national event and Championships.
