this from a man with 1/2 greyhound 1/2 whippet  which was a non  limit :- "

Which dogs was that then?

The only no limit dog I have ever had is Jack 7 and he doesn't have ghd as a parent. All my other dogs have run in weight limited races.

Some no limit scratch dogs would be entitled to be called a ghd under 3 generation pedigree rules

smokey joe homebird(greyhound) maddison (whippet)ran at 40ld scr also at no limit

soapy joe ran in some no limit races but was still a 40lb dog and as you say was a half cross unlike some of the 7/8 ghd running in the no limit

that was your choice to run with the no limit dogs i think

Yep it was my choice to run in the no limit and for the record I've always been against run as weighed for the no limit. If a sub 40lb dog wants to run with bigger dogs I don't see that as a problem. There have been many instances were the no limit wasn't the fastest race on the card, even on the bends.

I'm sure there is a reason you would both like me to start naming those dogs that are for mainly ghd bred but not knowing who they are isn't one of them. There is a database for whippet breeding on K9 and if you really don't know the breeding of any of the no limit dogs you can check them out there and in doing so you'll find out which are the 7/8 ghds.

The point I made was that a dog that is genetically more ghd than anything else ought to be able to run ghd grade times.

TBH it doesn't really bother me that people run 7/8 ghds against whippets as I don't run no limit dogs and I prefer to run on the straights as well where the bigger dogs have no advantage anyway.

Will deffo have to come to Wessy one Sunday for a trial before the NNWRF Open!

I can see that i can never get a solid answer as i suppose it all depends on weight of dog and 'how much percentage of greyhound is in the blood!'

Yes i suppose at certain tracks its easier for Whippets to hit the Greyhound Q/Time as the tracks are more than 30 metres less distance than up here at Gretna.

Anyone fancy an Open up at Gretna?

The bigger non peds ( 30lb +) will do grade time to win open races. The better scratch dogs will often be able to beat grade time by several yards.
To be fair some of the no limit dogs should be running grade time as they are effectively greyhounds anyway.

( lights fuse and stands back :) )

LIGHTS FUSE AND BURNS FINGERS LOL

Jesus - all this from a newby asking a simple question regarding the time her handicap weight dog should do round the bends.

GRETNA IS A VERY HARD TRACK FIRST TIME ROUND,IVE NO IDEA WHAT TIMES THE NON PEDS DO AROUND GRETNA,BUT YOUR DOG SHOULD FIND A FEW MORE YARDS NEXT TIME HE GOES ROUND

I think my final comment gives a pretty good indication of what I was expecting. There are some people who are very touchy about the amount of ghd blood in their dogs.

However any crtisism of such breeding programs others may feel I have made is entirely of their own construction. I'm all for ghd blood in whippets. It could be argued there has been some convergent evolution between track ghds and scratch whippets as far as sprint bend races are concerned and without weight limits the type of dog that does well will end up being the same type whether it's developed from ghd or scratch whippet. It just so happens that there is more pressure to develope good ghds rather than good scratch whippets for thes races hence more ghd blood than whippet. or put another way no limit bend racing is becoming indistinguishable from ghd sprint bend racing. All IMHO

Happy birthday Geoff

Lets say no more on the subject, you're entitled to your opinions,as we all are.

I've known you too long to take offence

great track gretna

Gretna is a very good track as people who came to Gretna Derby last night commented and just being off the M6/ Cumbrian Gap turn off its extremely easy to get to. Not 100% sure but im pretty sure its one of the biggest flapping tracks distance wise.

Sound a good track would love to race our penny there

APROACHED GRETNA LAST YEAR ABOUT PUTTING A GOLDEN JACKET OPEN ON THERE UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS BOOKED UPFOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS

BRILLIANT TRACK THE FED USED TO RACE THERE IN THE 80s by the way "WHOLE LOTTA ROSIE" 40lb scr I BELIEVE STILL HOLDS TRACK RECORD

What time did it do and over what distance
