Is there ever much betting on whippet racing or lure coursing?

i know some ppl find it distasteful but surely there's always room for a little home-made touch ;)

i know they used to have betting on coursing, does it ever happen in the whippet world?

There is no betting allowed in pedigree whippet racing.

Ok thanks.

If it was up to me i would run a tote, the profits from which go to reitred greyhound charities or similar. And i'd maybe have a maximum bet and max takeout to stop anything other than betting for fun.

This wopuld then take it into the same world as greyhound racing where the racers are in little groups who do not talk to any other group and there is no friendliness between the groups at all. This is the reason i packed up greyhound racing so long ago and came into whippet racing where there is so much friendliness and everyone congratulates the winners and also the losers too and if anyone is in any difficulty then anyone will help you out or put you in the right direction. As i race at a very small club i operate the lure and as my dog has its first race tomorrow i will be relying on someone dont know who till i get there to race her as i am on my own and do not have a partner to take over from me if i was in the greyhound world i would not trust anyone to do this as the would not want your dog to stand a chance of winning unless you were in there little clicque. If they bought betting back into whippet racing then i would quit tomorrow and my dogs would just be pets for the rest of their lives which would be a shame for them as they love running. Henry.

that is spot on. i could leave my girls in the car and know that they are safe, you could not do that with greyhounds. 99% of whippet racers are honest and true.

i too agree, if betting was introduced to whippet racing we would quit to,i think quite a few other racing folk would do the same as well :))

the thing i like about whippet racing is that there is no betting, if there was i think it would take away the friendlyness and help that other racers give each other.

I would hate it and not bother racing my dogs as one is a ped show bred and so would never do any good....the fun for me would be lost.

Then if we had betting wouldnt we have to have a vet at each race meeting?

GGGggrrrrrrrr NO to betting

well i dont think having a vet is a bad thing is it?

i know what u mean, i think it is a shame though as i work in horse racing and betting causes no problem there, within the racing community(among trainers/lads owners etc).

As i understand it if the small clubs had to have a vet at everyrace they just couldnt afford to carry on...

oh rite yeh i see, kool. So long as a vet isnt too far away it's ok ent it :)

-_- Why would anyone want to bet on a whippet race when you already know the result if you know the dogs in the traps? -_-

:D [ YES COULD AGREE WITH MOST OF WHAT YOU SAID BUT DO YOU KNOW WHEN THE BITCH YOU ARE RUNNING WITH HAS JUST BEEN IN SEASON OR WEEKS OUT OF SEASON OR BANG ON READY TO COME IN SEASON OR THE DOG IS BEEN OFF FORM A FEW WEEKS BEFORE. ITS LUCK AND GETTING YOUR LITTLE WHIP RIGHT ON THE DAY IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT AND AT THE END OF THE DAY THEY COULD MISS THERE TRAP THEN END OF. BUT HIT THERE TRAP AND WIN IF THEY ARE GOOD ENOUGH . EVERY DOG HAS IT,S DAY WHETHER IT BE CON,S OR MAIN FINAL,S BUT BRING BETTING INTO OUR SPORT AND IT WILL BRING NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS COS IT,S FOR FUN FOR US PED WHIPPET PEOPLE
