Just thought I'd post a new picture of Billy - he'll be 14 weeks on Friday and has totally made himself at home now - as you can see from the picture he likes nothing better than running upstairs when I'm not looking and settling himself on my bed!

Has anyone got any advice please - I have a 'dogflap' that my JRT uses but as he is a rescue he was trained to use this as an adult - when would you start training a puppy to use this? Although I'm not counting my chickens Billy has been clean now going outside for the toilet for the last 4 days as we have been keeping the door open during the day and following him to the back door on an evening. I don't want to frighten him of the dogflap yet but just thought I'd ask advice of when anyone else began training their pup to use one?

(Milly - my Mum's IG uses this now but she only started when she was 1 as she didn't holiday with us until they so she didn't use it as a pup either).

  aww billy is soo cute couldnt ya just kiss him ,sorry no experience with dog flaps but maybe sticking your head throu it and call him or put your hand throu with a treat in it and slowly pull it throu the flap if hes anything like my lot hel follow it throu (w00t)

He is gorgeous

I would try and prop it open so its dosent frighten him when he goes through it.

Good luck

Thanks for lovely comments and advice - I've tied flap open and he's using it! Hurrah! :D

What a lovely little boy... glad hes using your dog flap

keep it tide up for a week or so to make sure hes ususing it without even thinking. get a good recall going for a treet that he realy loves. if he likes chicken use a sertin word for chicken so he will come like a loony for it. Next one day wait till hes poped outside with your other dog have his treets ready and call them both in if hes anything like my greyhounds and whippets a couple of calls inside and then do the same outside and thats it all you should need. he will watch your other dog go through and soon pick it up. my whippet pups i have had have gone through a very big heavy greyhound flap by about 10 weeks old. hope that helps
