Bird flu can be dangerous to humans because the close contact between farmed poultry and people means the virus has a chance to combine with a human flu virus and mutate into a dangerous form.  I think the chances of it affecting dogs is practically nil.
the chances of it mutating to humans in Europe is slight (Ithink the latest quote is more chance of being struck by lightening) there has only been a handful of deaths worldwide and those were in asia(80) ,turkey etc where people live with their birds drink blood, eat entrails etc.

If it can mutate to humans why not dogs or anyother species? that is why it is being taken so seriously

In America in 2005 Greyhounds developed a strain of flu transfered from horses that killed about 20% of racing greyhound Who conntact the virus because thet where feed on uncooked horse meat.

Good rule of thunb is cook all meat that you eat and or feed to your dogs

If you read the whole article it states that the strain of flu which they believe has mutated is spread by airborne particles as is all influenza virus's.

In the article Dr Ruben who is chief of Molecular Gentics for the Influenza branch of the Center of Disease Control and Prevention states that " The assumtion that the eating of raw meat was to blame should be regarded as speculation rather than fact"

As with this type of article the orginator who i beleive is a breeder has taken 2 x 2 and made 5 it is worrying that these virus's are mutating and it must be taken seriously as as we all are aware these respirtory conditions spread very quickly

with birdflu being found in the uk what is everyone doing about feeding there dogs raw chicken wings. I must admit I have stoped giving them to mine instead iv been striping the meat off the bone and cooking it. I wont give up chicken for the dogs or us but will be cooking it well.
