My Spry has just come into season (Just this morning) and i was wondering do you leave her bitches that are in season at home when you are going to shows/racing etc?

Thanks kim x

We would never take our bitch to shows when in season,a its not fair on the other male dogs,it can cause alot of distraction for the male dogs and upsets amoungst the entire males,so i would keep her home

I agree, best to keep her home for the next 3 weeks. It's a terrible distraction for the male dogs and the bitch's scent carries a long way:O

I have one in season at the moment and even my others smell of her ....... it causes an awful lot of interested sniffing if I take any of them out at the moment so I'm staying home this weekend

see as it was her first day & first season we took her for the puppy class but kept her in the car (i had bathed her last night and was sad i had to leave her behind) - also our males hadnt twigged on she was bleeding yet, and neither did any dog there

she will have to stay at home next week now thou

Still had a successful day :)

Kim, at least you have asked & thats thoughtful....I have 2 Males, one who is at stud....believe me if there is a bitch in season he is uncontrollable, & unshowable !!

Personally I think it is really out of order to bring bitches in season to shows, last week at Cornwood show, a bitch was in FULL season (to which the owner admitted to) & he showed her & she won her class !!!! (surprised the judge did not pick it up, but she is rough coated)

Unfortunately it is one of the negatives of keeping bitches, there are times when you have stay away from shows, racing etc to be fair to the people who keep males. Glad you had a good day today though

Thanks for that :)

We did sit and decide this morning before we set off and after realising it was only us who had seen that she had "just" come on heat and even our boys wernt even bothered about her then we thought well we will show her but only race her at the side of her litter sister.

Was a good day thou , we went to badsworth hunt show

I have an entire dog that can smell a bitch on heat for miles and is also uncontrollable. If a bitch that is in season is at a show then it will put a dog right off stride - my dog will not race if he knows there is one around....all he will do is try to find her and god forbid if he gets hold of her

i think you would be very wise to keep away untill she has finished

It is a real pain in the bum when people take dogs that are in season. It is disruptive to other dogs and owners.

My dogs can smell them a mile off,so i would beg people to keep them at home.

Are you saying you SHOWED & RACED an in-season bitch ? If you did, that's completly irresponsible ! You had total disregard for the dog owners there, and what if your bitch had ran off during the racing ?? Bitches do strange things when in heat! God knows what might have happened. The judge should have asked you to remove the bitch from the field.

Cheers.

i didnt agree with it either goran , but the judge also judged a bitch heavy in milk after obviously not long having pups . which also suprised me . you wont see my dog for weeks now as they are now in season . it happened at heart of wales if u remember . was a nightmare for the male dogs . but that woman wanted a rossette whatever happened .

I am surprised you male dogs have not taken any notice of your bitch

I have a bitch in season at the moment & knew she was due to come in June/July. I have been keeping my eye on hernfor sometime & could tell myself it was inimant but my male dog also knew he to was keeping his eye on his daughter...he should be so lucky..a big no-no!!! I purposefully haven't entered her for any shows from beginning of June until beginning of August.

she went in the puppy show class, and raced against her sister only. (in the morning there was 4 dogs racing due to low entries - all who were bitches - hence the choice to let her have a run) - infact i dont think one male dog raced?????

"I am surprised you male dogs have not taken any notice of your bitch"

also like i said we decided after having our morning cuppa that seen as none of our 2 males even gave her a look that she would be ok to go. it s her first season and its only that i noticed her "paying more attention" in that area that she must be coming into season - so i dont think we were irresponsible, no male dog gave her a look at the show because they were ALL females she was around - if i hadnt have groomed her before we were getting ready to go, i prob wouldnt have even noticed untill we arrived at the show anyway.

now i think taking a "heavily in season, older bitch would be bad" to race/show etc, and also unfair to males racing.

p.s - we also show pedigree dogs (males thou) and people ALWAYS take bitches in season - but just keep them out of the way

It is KC shows which I attend & I NEVER take in season bitches to shows & there are quite a number who are the same.

Andy, it absolutely disgusted me that, a bitch in heavy milk was shown & I have written to the dog show organiser. At the Heart of Wales show as you know I was the judge & I did report the owner of the bitch in full season to the ring steward. It was a mixed sex championship, & I am totally convinced it upset the males in the ring. Glad to see you agree with me, despite you knowing the person concerned very well....

I must admit i have never seen a bitch in season at a

show and i wouldn't dream of taking one of my girls

while they were in season.

just had to take my girl to the vets - turned out shes not in season!!!!!!!    She has an infected water tract! hence the spotting and licking and slight swelling! - confusing or what

Poor girl. ...... no wonder i was confused why no boys were interested in her  ! lol

there are a lot of bitches in GSD showing that are in season, ( i suppose with the german showing they have been practicing for months for certain shows so think bugger it) so long as they tell the judge they dont mind (we dont show GSD bitches thou) and they just take lots of wipes with them in the ring if needed.

I was also upset by seeing a bitch heavily in milk and being shown this chap had 8 week old pups running loose next to the ring under cars and i asked the organiser if she would get them removed and she went over and asked him to put them in the car and put his dog on a lead. I do not like to see puppies up for sale at shows it is very traumatic for them people handling them and you dont know what germs are being passed around. The worse thing was last year the lurcher judge brought his own puppies to sell on the field i think this was very unprofessional and unfair on the puppies as he had travelled a long way to the show. some people amaze me they have no thought for the welfare of there pups they dont ask to be born
