Im looking for some advice......

I think Tilly is on/in heat, she is grumpy  and following me about, she keeps licking her bits :b which are a little swollen, every now and again she drips some fluid which smells a bit fishy :x but not loads.

And to day a male took quite a fancy to her, not that she seemed to mind (i didnt let him do any thing) :- "

Does it sound like shes in heat?

Oh she is 10 months old

bingo! nows the time to guard her, for about 2-3 weeks roughly

Sounds like she's on heat  Have fun

She seems to have a sore tummy as well, is there any thing i can give her to make her feel better???

sometimes a fluffy hot water bottle can help with any cramps :huggles: or something to chew/play with to distract her.

as long as you reassure her, give her lots of cuddles etc. the discomfort usually passes quickly.

:huggles: :huggles: to tilly, big girl now :D

Have you not seen any blood ? if not , I think Id be a little worried , Usually their first season they swell up like a babboon .

Hope all is well :luck:

Only once or twice, but really small bits, she is licking quite a lot though?

She is not majorly swollen, but more than usual, if that makes sense

Sounds like shes in season to me  ..........Of our 4 girls, only 1 is a bit careless cleaning up after herself :b .......The other 3 are spotlessly clean, so we have to go by swelling instead of spotting ........Tilly is about the right age aswell ....... :luck: :D

As long as some has been spotted , Thats fine , maybe she will be lucky and not swell too much , but now you must really keep an eye on her . or else (w00t) naughty boys will have their wicked way (w00t)

yes i know, one tried to have a go today

But it would give me my second pup :- "

I know you are only joking , :clown: but it is not permited by the Kennel Club to mate a bitch before 12 months of age . :sweating:

Yes i was only joking, it doest matter what KC says, because she is way to young....i will wait till her next one or the one after....

I guess they are about 6 months apart?? (ish)

depends on the bitch :D some are like clockwork, others...

the kc says that any bitch mated before 18mths, the litter cannot be registered, even if the mating happened just days before the 18mth mark

if youre going to mate her, i'd wait until either the 3rd - 4th season, or she's 2yrs old, whichever comes first. that way she'd be finished growing herself, more confidant, settled etc.

Dont like disagreeing with you , but it is 12 months , not 18 :huggles: but `The Whippet club ` `say not before 2 years

it stuck in my mind as this silly cow on a stafford site posted about her litter, 1mth old, and the mum was 16mths  boy, did she get shot down! though hers werent kc reg, many people told her that minimum age restrictions are put for a reason, namely the bitches welfare. funnily enough, she didnt come back :- "

but the 2yr rule is a good one  shame it only regulates for people who'd wait that long anyway :(

The thing is with the KC is that all breeds are classed the same , some of the smaller breeds do mature much faster than whippets and obviously some much slower :- " ( like people   )

aint that the truth  just breaks my heart, what some people do to their pets :(

the farmer up the road breeds his girls on the 1st season, then every season until theyre knackered

just ignore me, i'm still a tad half cut now, so braincells (those left  ) arent in the best state :p remind me next year to really really really avoid cocktails

Tilly will only ever have one litter, but not this time

Update she is def in season because there is def blood...... so .......

How do you stop everything getting messed up ???

covering all furniture you hold dear with throws/towels/whatever you dont mind getting ruined :D i'm sooo glad i dont have carpeting in the house :sweating:

by the time its over, most bitches are adept at cleaning up after themselves  some are so good at it, you wouldnt know they are in season bar the swelling. amber was a bit panicky during her 1st season :D but her 2nd season, we only saw one drop of blood because she cleaned constantly.

just dont get vexed with her, it'll all come right. and get a good carpet/fabric cleaner :p :huggles: for tilly
