My lurcher bitch was spayed 11 days ago, she had her stitches out yesterday, i was wondering wether the vets cocked up on it, it was a locum vet that did it as my usual vet was on holiday and hes the only one that i really trust with my dogs. The nurse said that she had had an alergic reaction to the stiching material. Some of the wound is still slightly open and it has been oozing a little blood.

Has anyone seen a spay wound like it before? My other bitch was spayed 4 years ago when she had a c section and hers was fine.

Hi my two bitches were spayed couple of months ago and vet used glue to close wound and the scar is hardly visible. Is your dog ok in herself? If you are not happy I would take her back. Sorry not a lot of help.

Well i asked them why they didn't use internal stitches or glue and i was told it depends on the vet and he decided to do it that way. Shes going back on saturday for another check up. Shes fine in herself, just wants to run bless her, she doesn't really like it being touched though.

If the vet you trust is back from his holidays I would definately take her back asap as that looks horrible. :(

sorry but i dont like the look of the wound, i had my elderly italian speyed last wed and she has healed ? no oozing or any signs just the stitches will show she has had anything done? i wouldnt be happy with that imo? keep an eye on her temp as maybe a small infection arisen? good luck anyway :luck:

Looks like she could do with some antibiotics to me. Get her back to your Vet now!

back to the vets pronto!

when i had a deep abdo wound looking like that my nurse was horrified that i'd not gone sooner. she said if i'd left it any longer i could have ended up with serious problems, as the wound was straight into the boby cavity.

take her back and get your regular vet to give her the once over - my guess is she needs antibiotics

:huggles: for you both

i had millie and phoebe speyed on the same day,and phoebe healed really quickly but millie had a reaction to the stitches and looking at your pics i would say her wound looked the same and same as you described it,i was advised to clean with salt water and once the stitches where out she healed very fast ,so dont worry but its easy said than done because i had major panics with it.

I had a bitch just the same and it was a reaction to the stitches. She was not the first one I might add.

No, that doesn't look right to me. When Chloe had her stitches out after being speyed, her wound was clean and not oozing at all.

good god thats horred i would be kicking up a fuss if it were one of my girls iv had 10 bitches of my own spayed in the past lurchers and greyhounds and have had lots of foster here that have just been done and non have ever looked like that 3 to 4 stiches is normal and usualy the day after the stiches come out i give them a little clean in that area and theye my be a few spots of blod from the stich itslef coming out but nothing else and thats w ith lits of differnt vets that have done it. you would fined it hard to fined any scare now on mine at all hope shes not to uncomfortable there should be no uossing good luck:huggles:

Am glad some here recognise that type of wound but id take her to the vets asap to be on the safe side. Nelly healed in no time and the stitches were clean, neat and deffo no weeping.

Hope she ok. x

The wound doesn't look right - part of it looks as though it has either opened up or has not healed properly. I would take her back to the vet straight away so they can check her. :luck:

I had carpal tunnel operations on both my hands - one last September and one in January. One hand healed really quickly and the scar is now barely visible, the other hand (different surgeon) didn't heal well, the wound opened up when the stiches were removed, and the scar is now very noticeable.

Unfortunately you don't know if the problem is just due to a wound getting infected, a bad reaction to stiches, or because of a not very competent surgeon/vet. :(

I've got to agree with some of the others here... i'd take her back to the vet as it doesnt look good to be honest...

Hope shes ok... :huggles:

Well she was only there yesterday and they saw what it was like, they just gave me some antibiotics and told me to come back on saturday for another check up with my vet i usually use. They said it's totally closed on the inside, just the outside a bit sore. It'll heal on it's own they said, shes fine in herself though and i'll just keep a watch on her till saturday.

I would monitor her closely for 48hours and keep her as quiet as possible,so that she doesn't open the wound. But if there isn't considerable improvement within that time,i would go back then.

I hope she recovers quickly :luck:

I would also give her some arnica tablets, as they will help with the internal brusing

The proximal end of the wound (head end) looks a bit inflamed and has superfically not healed. The surrounding areas are not over inflammed, but showing signs of minor surface infection around the suture holes. as your vet has examined her, I am presuming he has looked closely for signs of secondary infection (raised temperature, and exudating woundsite). Don't panic, I think it looks a little inflammed, but if she is well in herself and not swollen or oozing, she'll be fine with A/B cover. It probably looks worse than it is (this is a qualified surgical human nurse opinion). If you are worried and she becomes ill in herself, gether back ASAP though

 This is an absolute disgrace! To start with the incision is absolutely enormous. My vet cuts opening of about an inch, puts in one or two stitches, and next day the wound is all nice and dry.

:luck: :luck: :luck:
