Here in Oz boar are legal quarry. Many, many years ago I was purchasing a ferret from an older gentleman and saw two fine whips in a kennel run. He informed me he worked them on boar. This man was a well respected dogman, and the dogs wore working scars, and I was awoken to the potential of these mighty little dogs.

I submit a recent pic of a fine young whip (not mine) who has developed a taste for pork. I submit it in link form and request anyone sensitive to such issues not to click on the link,

ace pics glen, the whippets obviously get the boars in a hold either by the ear or snout until they can be dispatched by the hunter.? I imagine it would take a whippet quite some time to kill a boar by its own device.. :thumbsup:

Exactly correct Sparky. Even dogs weighing in excess of 50kg would take a long time to sort out a decent boar. Their job is to hold till the master can assist and dispatch as quickly and humanely as possible. Feral boar can be a major problem. They can impact heavily on lambing ewes, crops, etc and also cause much environmental damage.

I will send you a pic via pm of this fine young whip in action. I fear it would upset some here if posted in open forum, but contains nothing illegal or immoral,

There are lines or working whippet here, selectively bred for many generations, that are well proven on nearly all our legal feral quarry, as well as native quarry that was previously fair game. Your showbred whip may chase a rabbit but they don,t often match the proven working lines, especially on the larger/nastier prey. Some quarry, like boar, is best suited to a working pair, be it a whip pair or a pair of 50kg bull/molloser, or our well loved deer/grey linebreds, for field longevity. Of course, they must be entered properly, but the right pair of whips will see to most demands. I run a bit of muscle with mine, but many of the old hands didn,t. The old whips have taken large fast pouched hare one out, I reckon thats asking too much, but it makes you pretty confident on buck bunnies :thumbsup:
