Afternoon everyone

We are going to our daughters wedding in Kent in September and we are looking for a suitable boarding kennels in our local area.

We had a v bad experience with one kennels a couple of years ago (which is why we haven't had a proper holiday since) - we only had Meg at the time; when we went to pick her up she looked absolutely dreadful  ; cutting a long story short the kennel owner had an investigation following our complaint from which the kennel maid admitted to not looking after Meg properly (she was promptly fired!!) .

We now have Meg and two of her pups - who will be nearly 10 months in September. We really need some highly recommended places to chose from, who are aware of the nature of whippets.

We live on the Cumbrian Coast.

Any advice or help would be appreciated o:)

Thanks

Hi Kath,

have you tried asking your local vet?

or local training class??

make sure you go and check any out first...........

i have been to view a kennel, the website made it look really nice........but it was a different story when i got there, didnt like the place or the woman that ran it !

Agree with Helen here too....

ours have been in a really nice small personal one...I was really happy leaving them there. In fact they are going in tomorrow night..just for one night while we go down to Liverpool.

We checked a few out in the area...and some looked fine till you got inside...cold concrete floors..smelling of urine....

one had the excercise area in full view of all the other dogs and kennels... (w00t) Mine would not have settled there at all so promptly left.

Also you usually get a feel for some people, and know they are genuine dog/animal lovers....some of the folks running these places should never be running them at all....

I agree with both the above. Check 'em out! I used a place regularly twice a year and would have highly recommended it until the last time I used it - the owner had deputised one of the kennel staff who didn't seem at all interested when I was explaining that our oldest whippet (15) was on special food, which I had brought with me.

Needless to say, when I went to pick the dogs up, the old boy was quite unwell with an upset stomach, and the little bitch had become quite thin; both had dull coats and looked very unhappy. After that we either take them with us, get in a dog-sitter, or go away separately.
