With a number of lure coursing events planned this spring plus the Venture hill sprint persumably being rearranged

does anyone have any news as to the Bob Blatch meeting ie is it happening ?

Hi Lauri, it will be happening we are waiting confirmation re the venue but hopefully the back end of Feb looks favourite, also we (EAWCC) had a commitee meeting on sunday and have decided to trial a more simple course layout making for easier judging and a quicker turnaround of dogs in slips, courses will still be 700+ yards uphill down dale etc but with less tight turns, we are also going to trial a gate system so dogs cutting corners will be penalised, as i said we are trialling this system at the next members meet and shall see if its a valid way forward

cheers

Patrick

we use the gate system in our meets N.P.W.L.C.C and it works at least everyone knows were the pulleys are and find it easier to follow.we also start and finish within 30yds of each other .which gives you a quick turnaround in slips.saves all that walking too.and the dogs are back in their cages double quick.see you at the next E.A.W.C.C. club meet

Cheers Graham,

having someone thats already using the system should make it easier when we come to setup at Little Dog Drove all ideas will be greatly appreciated

Patrick what will be used for the gate posts ? as i saw a lurcher at Skipton Game Fare badly injuried after a crashing in to a wooden post while this system was being used.

i was thinking of using what me and you did at Arron's to mark the rollers, sapling branche's cut from scotch firs totally harmless if hit  the markers set the "gate" in which both dogs must pass to keep a clean sheet like i said its all in its trial period so changes will be made if there not working

We are trying to make a fairer system because there are no rules for "lure coursing" meets tend to be marked on the same basis as when the dogs were running under rules and the two disciplines are completly different ie a bag turns on a pulley regardless of any input from the dog

we use traffic cones, if you want you can put some white overflow pipe inch and quarter into them works a treat.plus you can pick them up anywhere :thumbsup:the americans use this system alot read a link on google about it awhile back typically carnt find it now.basically its based on the ski giant slalom gate system and the zig zag the slalom .

Thats a safer choice Patrick as its a tried & tested way.
