Just read that link what with the 'I'm fat fanny'  there all bonkers!!

if I was that man they posted a picture of I'd sue them!!!! privacy and all that!

Your right Tina and they are nasty... no room for spelling errors on that site, wouldn't suit me!! How do you spell deleted again :sweating: :sweating:

(w00t) (w00t) nasty nasty people!!

yet they do feed tinned rabbit dog food :- "

i have a twelve month old whip called roo who recently caught her first rabbit, i take her to a place thats overrun with rabbits most evenings, she runs and runs and runs!!! she loves to chase them so i just leave it up to her, if she catches then it was fair and square.!!! she is my pet, so i dont lamp her, i leave the lamping for people with working lurchers. if you do lamp pick your ground very carefully their are a lot of injured whippets about from wire fences and stuff. hope im not sounding too serious here because i love to watch roo chase and my heart pounds with every run!!!

I enjoyed seeing how other people conduct their arguments.

Amazing how folk felt that the thread was "hijacked by the pro-hunts" when actually I think there were 3 pro-hunt posts and more than 40 irrelevent "other" off-topic posts. Don't their own off-topic posts count as hijacking, then?

... and a single post meant that the pro-hunt lobby were "out in force" If I stand alone outside my own house and rant about the government, does that mean the anti-Blairites are "out in force"??

by all means buy ya self a lamp, but it doesnt want to be comin out of the box for another ten months at the very least. running a pup at 5 months? recipe for disaster if ya ask me. lay the foundations first recall, retrieve ect. ya dont want to be spoiling a dog by enterin too early, i know it is very pempting when it makes its first kill, but on this occasion i would say it was more luck on the dogs part than being a natural born "killer" just be patient and its time will come, and it will be a better companion in the field..... good luck.

Hi Levs,

I lasted for about 60 seconds on that site before I was banned by the site owner, no reason given just banned for life.

I posted a short peice trying to descuss the pro's/cons of hunting and for that they banned me, I was so hurt I felt so outcast I felt so! OK I didnt realy give a toss coss in my opinion their just a bunch of tree hugging tossers but that just my opinion.

Happy hunting mate (what left that is)

If your pro or anti hunt the dogs have the instinct to hunt, I have never encouraged mine but they have caught loads, only trouble is they chase anything that moves, including cyclyists, who usually bring them back and ask for a 5 mile head start!.

Cats are the number one enemy and I don't know why, but they hate them, we have to be on gaurd all the time and if they see them it's like a red mist comes down over them and they go demented, they scream and wihne and it takes all your strengh to hold on to them, little dears  , they always manage to do this when there are plenty of people to watch just how well behaved they are!

so what can you hunt now? is it just rabbits? I'm a noobie to this  ;)
Firstly I'm really pleased that people haven't taken my post the wrong way I've been accused of being an anti before because of a similar situation  and I'm very impressed with the attitudes of the non hunting folk on this site it's nice to have decent sound open mided people on this board.

You can only legally hunt rats and rabbits with hounds/lurchers etc: on the condition that you have the landowners permission ( it's best to have it in writing aswell ) and as another post has said it isn't without hazards but then what isn't. I've been very lucky with my own dog who works day and night that she has never needed attention from a vet through any working related injuries but I know some who have found themselves with big bills or even lost their dogs if that's something you'd find hard then it's best to give it a miss.

Personally I will hunt what I want when I want and how I want I always have and Mr. Blair isn't influentual enough on my morales to stop me and if I spell something wrong I hoppe I get away wif it on ere :p :p ;)

Alec you miss-read my post, I don't allow my 5 month old to hunt!! he was bouncing around in the long grass having a play when he spotted the squirrel, the squirrel ran out of the long grass and then my 2 year old was on it in a flash!

they both didn't have to run after it as Chance had it as soon as it was on the walkway, no running on this one! he does however chase Chance around and play with her, but he LOVES bouncing and rolling around in the long grass, and I really do think both dogs have a real natural instinct to hunt, hope this answers your post,

and sorry but all my dogs are already spoilt rotten (w00t) (w00t)

some really interesting reading on here, it's getting me up to scratch on the hunting ban

What chance one of you fine people would allow me (a complete stranger for goodness sake) accompany you on a (legal) rabbit hunt?

Not much chance I expect! :- "

My whippet is 9 month so I would either leave him at home or keep him on the lead.

Will buy post run beer!

Any takers - Midlands.

Eating wild rabbit must be more humane than battery chickens!

Steve.

no problem Alec

when I eventually get a good digi cam I will post pic's of Binx in the long grass, it's so funny to see, he kangaroo jumps through it, and does get fairly high too!! (w00t)

Just caught up with this , oh my god what a self righteous bunch of t---s they are on that other site. If they object to hunting so much, then why own sighthounds and lurchers????

How can you suppress a couple of thousand years of breeding just to satisfy the fluffy bunny morality they have - saddos lol

Mark Roberts said:
Hi Tina,
Most sighthounds given the chance will show their inborn ability to hunt, a well bred dog takes very little training if any they just need the opertunity to develope their skills by having the opertunity to explore ect.

so whens the rabbit pie  ;)

Beau saw his first ever hare last week. We were out walking in a seldom used stretch of land when a hare hopped out a couple of metres in front of him. Beau is the most affectionette, gentlest, sweetest little dog we have every had, loves his bed, his toys etc etc, very much a house pet. All of a sudden that dog showed exactly what he has been breed for. He took off like a bolt of lightening after that hare , gave a damm good chase, up the track, through a fence and across a field. He was right on its tail right up until he lost it down a burrow. He knew he had lost it, so was standing proudly with a where'd it go, where'd it go sort of a stance. Then came flying back to me. Not bad for a first effort. It was all instinct and breeding. He might not have caught his first one, but I am certain he won't miss too many more.

For me it was quite a thrill to see him do what he is breed to do. I neither encourage them to chase prey or discourage them. This is what they are breed to do, as someone else said on this thread " if you don't like it, don't have a sighthound"

Hi Karen

I was about to post that hares don't live in burrows, but then I realised that in Australia they just might!

Hi Cerito,

I don't know if it was a hare or a rabbit , I just assumed it was a hare because of it's size. When it disappeared I could still see Beau but not the bunny, so thought it went down a burrow or under a log, whatever. It was being chased and very nicely chased for a first effort I thought. My point was more along the lines of what Mark had to say about instinct and breeding. This little dog had never seen a rabbit -ever - he and never been encourged to chase birds or cats, nothing. He had no other dog in on the chase with him. He just knew what he was breed to do, and he did it. :)
