I have just been told of a litter of Borzoi x Bedlington pups and wondered if anyone has ever see/heard of, such a cross ? What kind of size are they likely to be? Three of the lurchers I have now have beddie in them, but I dont know any breed characteristics/traits of the Borzoi, so hope I can get some advice from you knowledgable lot

I'd love to see a pic of these, can't imagine what they will look like. Borzois are such elegant, aloof looking dogs & Beddys are such scrappy little dogs(Well, at least mine is  ) I just can't imagine what a combination of the 2 would look like.

I'd guess you could end up with a very posh looking dog who wouldn't let you sit on your own chair

Never heard of such a cross. I wouldn't entertain it either. My borzoi is very stand offish with strangers, trys to kill anything she comes across, but is very loving to the people she knows, although her behaviours not her fault, she was poorly socialsed as a pup, i know she would be different if she had bee socialised. Providing they have plenty of socialisation, they should make 'unusual' companions. :)

I had number of Borzois (8, including the one my daughter had) and their temperament ranged from pathologically shy to the most friendly and outgoing one. The last one used to greet every person, dog, cat, horse or other animal imaginable, as a long lost friend. The only way to establish what these lurchers may be like is to meet the parents. I do not know anything about Bedlingtons. Good socialisation is important but if you start with a temperament like my last Borzoi it is sheer joy, while trying to bring out of itself pup like my first one is long hard work and you may never get quite to the point you would like.

As far as looks go, the pups should be somewhere half between their parents’ size, with hair not as long as Borzoi. The actual basic shape is quite similar.

Please, post some pics if you go to see these pups. :) :luck: :luck: :luck:

I would'nt mind seeing a few pics either Peony if you get any more info

Wonder which way the x was...hopefully the Beddie used a step ladder :sweating:

 for the life of me I cannot see the purpose in such a cross,

I'm not the best with genetics, but would have anticipated

it to be much the same as any other 1st cross-

a mix of height although none achieving the extreme of either parent,

again some throwing more to the Beddie coat, some to the Borzoi,

with a few a mixture? I dunno

Interesting as the Bedlington seems to throw quite dominant genes in lurcher

crosses I've previously seen...wonder what the nature will be like

Having a chuckle imagining something like J.T suggested:

"a very posh looking dog who wouldn't let you sit on your own chair"

Someone turned up at BSFA with a couple of 1/4 Borzoi lurchers (can't remember what else they had in, apart from GH), they both just looked like enormous greyhounds. They ran very well, but one went for the other dog it was running with (Olivia's Nana I think) half way round :( (fortunately it was muzzled).

There is a lovely red Borzoi that runs very well at BSFA, and I believe got BIF once

Thanks for all your comments  .......................apparently the pups are about 7 weeks old now and I am hoping to go and see them very soon. I know the mother ( Borzoi) and she is the most gentile. biddable thing ever. She has an air of aloofness and makes you think that she is FAR too grand for a fuss, yet once you start to stroke her aristocratic face, she is a friend for life. ( her sister is the same too). I shall see if the owners are happy for me to photograph and then post pics :huggles:
