:sweating: guys would like your thoughts on whether a male or female pup

will get on with my older whippet, who is queen of the house.

also do i go with a pup with a outgoing nature or a quieter one.

thanks

Hello,

I have one of each, the bitch came first, then followed by the dog. They get on together fine after a few teething problems (Molly thought she ruled the house and got a rude awakening when Lenny arrived  ).

Molly gets on better with dogs than bitches (tart!) but perhaps that is just her as lots of other people have 2 or more bitches who get along fine. As she has got older though she gets on well with bitches now - her best friends being a female rottie x and a female border collie x  I think she has mellowed with age

What is your dog like with other dogs/bitches at the moment?

I meant to add- I suppose your main consideration would be, if you were to get a dog to live with your bitch would you have one or both neutered and if not would you be able to make arrangements to keep them apart at the 'appropriate' time?

I brought a female pup into the house with my young adult female

and had no problems at all, they were best pals in a couple of hours

and have remained so.

Recently i brought a older neutered male into the mix and it didnt

work, the younger female was fine but the older female took her

position of top dog to far and was hurting the male.

My older female is normally a very gentle girl but when the male

played with the younger one she would get very aggitated then

start a fight.

So i think it does go on the dogs in question and you wont know

how its going to go until you have tried it :))

Re: Quite v lively, you need to consider the type of dog you are looking for to suit your activities as well as fitting in with the family.

IMO Your queen needs to be allowed to keep her top dog status. You may need to help maintain this

You could be right there, she may need help to keep her top-dog

status.

That was the problem here, when i took Al on he was a dominant

dog and just too much for Sada to keep in line so she went over

the top :(
