How many of you keep dogs and bitches together? What do you do when your bitches are in season? Is it really hard on the boys? I'm not thinking of keeping one of my baby boys (NOT NOT NOT). (w00t) I am just interested.

I keep both ......I have 6 bitches (3 are speyed) but the other 3 are intact, and 2 boy's .....1 entire and 1 not .......I must admit I find it easy ......The Twit dosn't notice .....and Little Eric is very easy to ......They all live together in the house .....I just cage the one in season at bed time and when we're out ........Never had a problem :D ......(Well not yet anyway (w00t) ) .......

I keep both, 6 males all entire, 5 females (2 old and spayed). Boys stay in the kitchen/dog room and girls in season in the sitting room, caged when I am not around. No problems going outside either because the 'garden is split lengthways down the middle as well so the boys have access to one side and the girls in season to t'other!!

The old black dog moans a bit at first only cos he wants to get into the sitting room and into a comfy chair!!! Django doesn't like being separated from me so he's a bit sulky as well but other than that, no probs!

I have 4 of each, no trouble once you get into a system. Bitches in season in the lounge and out through patio doors into the garden, caged when Im out. Its ALWAYS harder when you have kids at home, when the boys were teenagers I had to be extra careful.

It was going well until this post! Teenage boys (w00t) . I have two  I do have a garden at the back and the front and could keep them seperate, I just don't know if it is worth the hassle :sweating:

We only have the one sex - bitches.

Richard reckons he's been surrounded by bitches for the last 25 years - don't know what he means :clown:

I started with bitches many years ago I bought Tyson from Richard and introduced him into my house of bitches. When the bitches were in season he went to my parents.

Richard started with a male from Nev and then another of Hillsdown breeding and then got a bitch - that was when the 'trouble started'. After a couple of years Richard went over to just bitches as he thought it unfair on the males to be kept out of the lounge/off the settee etc when the bitches were in season. They were being'punished' and kept out of the way. It was a much more relaxed atmosphere with just bitches.

PLUS it means you dont have to get to shows toooooo early when only showing bitches - the day has a time to warm up.

I got a bitch, from Richard, who was permanently being mounted by Tyson even when not in season. On moving in together we decided it was better that Tyson had a new home (especially as one of Richard's bitches was in season when I arrived on his doorstep and was feeling quite grumpy (would have ripped his head off given the chance :D )) the bitch I brought with me settled down quickly having been quite nervous previously - due I am sure to being mounted so much

So my advice is don't keep both sexes if at all possible

I just re-homed them (w00t) . you said don't keep males

I keep both and have no probs at all. I put pants on my bitches in the first and last week. For the second critical mating time week, i put the bitches in the boarding kenels i work at. I see them everyday and i don't have to pay for accomodation. :))

Ive got both , I tend to keep either the `offending bitch` in a cage in the lounge or Monttee in it . As hes getting older , and even though hes had a couple of girls :huggles: He dosnt get as wound up as he did when younger , I found the problem was worse when they were completly separated . and he did howl and pine then , but not now .

I must admit Im not looking forward to having to get to a show really early for minor puppy dog though :(

Neither of my 2 boy's fret or lose any weight when the girls are in .........The bitch in season walk's and free run's with both of them and stay's loose with them whilst we're around, with no prob's .......

I have both - boy and girl (mother and son). And Pollie is in a season now (today is a most hot day :sweating: ), poor her son is whistling all the day :( But it is only 3-4 really hot days and then he will feel himself normal again. Now I have to lock Pollie in another room.

Thats very brave of you . Dont think id risk Montee ` on the loose ` (w00t) He`d be `up an inum` before you knew it :- " .

Well, I have always had bitches and I don't imagine having a mixture of both sexes. Don't understand me wrong, but for me it should be a pleasure for dogs to live together and separating them is just unfair. Besides, the male still smells the bitch in season even if separated and just suffers.

Apart from seasons, I know some really tempered boys which try sex with my bitches no matter if they are in season or not and it's a litttle bit irritating for me and stressing for the bitch if not in season.

Don't get me wrong i it's just my point of view and maybe it's because I'm too comfortable :b

I have one bitch and one dog. As soon as I've noticed that the bitch is in season, the dog moves into another room, and he is kept there until there's no danger anymore. They are also taken out separately. The dog looses weight when separated from the bitch :( , the bitch doesn't mind being alone for a while :) .

wow lots of you seem to have had no problem at all, my Old lad Alf was a complete nightmare from several days before Rosa officially came into season till the last few days, he got so stressed out to the point that i was having to syringe glucose solution down his neck as he hadn't touched any food for around 10 days, only a little water and was really dehydrated.

I took him out for a long walk got about 2 miles away, went into his usual rabbit mooching field, unclipped lead and he promptly did an about turn and raced home.

It was not in the least bit fair on him being put out into a different room, he just got even more stressed so on one occasion i just had Rosa caged and him in the same room, he seemed quiet so i nipped out for a nature call and got back to find Alf and Rosa trying desperately to tie through the mesh, if they had managed it one false move could have seen Alf lose his man hood

I guess it depends what the dogs are like, non of my girls would allow any mounting if they were not in season. Our dogs sleep in all sorts of places so dont seem to mind when separated, where they DONT tend to be is the lounge (because we are nearly always in the kitchen) so when the bitches do go in the lounge they are really good and quiet. Frodo does'nt do whinning and Rory would only mate a bitch if she was bang on the right day.

I think dogs tend to be worse if they are young and if they are virgins.
