Hi, we lost our 14 year old cockapoo last year and miss him deeply but feel ready now to start again. We wish to have another cockapoo, this time a girl and colouring different to our boy.

We have been in contact with a breeder who has 2 cockapoo litters due and 1 cocker spaniel litter, all due in the autumn. She says it's down to timings of them coming into season, was hoping to be more spaced out but nature dictated. She is 5* rated and her dogs are her pets, all reared at home.

I'm just concerned how well the puppies will be nurtured/cared when 3 litters will be due all at the same time. Is this quite normal or should we be looking for a breeder who has 1 litter at a time?

Thank you in advance.

Three litters all at once doesn't sound like good practice in breeding. This is someone who is doing it for the money, rather than to produce well bred, good examples of a breed (which is what good breeders aspire to do).

Thank you Joanne.

We have an article on spotting puppy farms here that might be helpful: Puppy Farming

I'm not suggesting that this breeder's set-up is a puppy farm - there's a spectrum of breeders from the excellent to the awful, including those who aim to breed great puppies and make money. Good luck with finding your new companion.
