Hi,

I'm a long time viewer of the forum, first time registering and actually posting as I am hoping some of the people in here can help me out. I am in the North of Scotland, closest clubs are 150+ miles away and I know of nobody up here with whippets and certainly nobody who races whippets so it's a bit of a shame I can't speak to people at clubs to ask all of this sort of things.

I have tried to look and figure out as much as I can using the NPWRA and WCRA websites then searching for recent champions using their racing name on Whippet Archives as I can't seem to find any breeders of racing bred whippets via Google. I am just looking really to get a basic list of KC affixes or names of breeders in the UK of who would be happy for me to contact them about pups primarily.

What I have currently from just reading and trying to educate myself a bit, following breeders affix:

Goodad

Chalkners

Savernake

I see alot of lines go back to Fairmist Time Flies and Just Dandy and the above breeders have produced alot of current dogs which are racing well. What other affix is a current producer of racing line whippets? Are there any in Scotland?

If any body is game for helping out a complete newbie with the basics and understandings of racing it would be greatly appreciated. Please send me a PM if so and it would be a great help.

Thanks :)

Look in the clubs section for Scottish racing clubs, the scene there has been confusing recently, but I think there are at least two. They will know if there are any planned litters in the region, but all the affixes you mentioned are in the south of England.

This is becoming a bit of a standard response, so many times have I said it - but the single most best thing to do is go to race meetings. Get yourself known, and don't be afraid to ask people about their dogs and it's breeding.

Whippet folk are all gas-bags and will be more than happy to talk to a receptive audience :)

Totaly agree with Ian won't see a better response than that.

Hey Dean got your pm last night have sent you my contact details call me any night as my husband Derek will be home take care

Thanks for the replies :)

I have been to a meeting and plan to visit another to meet Mandy and Derek's club soon. It's just not so easy to get down to the central belt regularly unfortunately. Have also spoken to a helpful chap up here who used to run racing in Buckie which has got the ball rolling. So yeah, good advice Ian, I am doing what you said but thought be worth posting this on here just to get as much info possible. Also, those breeders are all south of England but this is not a problem to me, I'll travel anywhere for the right dog, my current pup is from Devon for example, that was a tiresome drive back up the road :)

Mandy, thank you very much for PM. I tried calling twice last night but your line was engaged so I will give you a call tonight once I have been out with the dogs etc. Thanks :D

A nice lady from down south also sent me a PM on here which was very helpful and pointed me to Mandy and Derek. So since posting this I have spoken to a few people and learnt alot, it's great how helpful everyone is in the racing world

In my opinion the research in your first post was absolutely spot on and if you continue to follow that research and obtain a pup from those lines you will be a very happy pedigree whippet owner

Once again Dean i am so sorry if you did not get through to my house as my brother is still in hospital very poorly my phone has been constantly ringing so keep trying call anytime as we are not early bedders

I am sorry to hear about your brother, hope all is OK and he gets better soon :) Was out with dogs and by the time I got home and had dinner it was 9pm and I wasn't wanting to phone late, but if you aren't early bedders will give you a phone about 9 tonight then now I know I won't disturb you haha. Derek and Mandy, what a help they are! Basically dedicated half of their evening to helping me out in every way possible and it was absolutely awesome to speak to them and get so much helpful information and encouragement. It makes such a great impression to see people so passionate about what they do and so keen to get new people involved and interested, as I am a bit shy, trying to learn about new things and how I can get involved is a bit daunting, but already I feel I have made new pals I can speak to who will be happy to help me out. So another big thank you to both Derek and Mandy for taking your time to help me, it really is appreciated! And also a breath of fresh air to be able to speak and not tone down my Fife accent for a change so people can understand me haha. These Highlanders up here haven’t got a clue!!

Thanks again, looking forward to nipping down the A9 VERY soon and meeting you and the people at the club. Can’t wait! :)

Dean it was a breath of fresh air talking to you this is a sport which Mandy has already said needs more young people to get involved and if we can help you in anyway please give us a call.

Cannot wait to meet you both when you do make it down and i am sure you will find everyone at the Club as friendly and helpfull as we are.

I have one WARNING !!! though it can become addictive lol but is extremely enjoyable fun for ALL the family.
