Hi everyone just joined this forum today, my name is betty and I own 2 whippet x beddy's,

I have had my dogs for 1 year now they were 11 months old when they come to me, I'm going to breed them in the next few weeks and was wondering where I could get a whelping box from? and also how long should I keep them apart once the pups come?

Sorry, its not that clear - are you mating one dog to your other one?

It depends on the bitch as to how long she should be kept away from other members of your canine household. Our first litter started off in a spare bedroom for the first 3 1/2 weeks. During this time the mother would have gone mad if any of the others had gone into the room. She told them off if they even managed to sneak upstairs. We kept her well away from the others because that is what she was happy with.

Second litter were born and raised downstairs from the beginning of their lives. This bitch is more clingy and needy of being around her human and canine family and i knew that it wouldn't suit her being shut upstairs away from us all. She was happy for the other dogs to be in the same room as her right away. This kept Ruby happy because she could safely tend to her litter in the pen, but if she chose, could join us or her whippet friends.

Both were good mothers, but very different.

I used a paddling pool both times and thoroughly recommend them.

buy an old chest of drawers from a junk shop take the draws out and lay it on its back then burn after use draft proof puppy proof whelping boxes, never paid more than a fiver

have you concidered health testing the parents ,it always worries me that people don.t realise first cross bedlingtons can be carriers therefore could produce affected pups

Hi.Dont think i am being funny but you will end up with pups as winter is aproaching IMHO not the best time to have pups.Plus a mate of mine bred his Beddy/grey to biglandboy and he could not believe some of the idiots who phoned and came to veiw the pups.atb tatsblisters

doncha know crossbreeds are automatically healthy? health tests are only for greedy, negligent show breeders :-

if you had them at the same age and length of time are they related or do you have a good stud dog lined up waiting

Firstly this would be better in the lurcher section

secondly depending on how they both get along bitches sometimes don't tolerate another dog near them when they have puppies

i would instead of a whelping box get a big cage where the bitch has plenty of room to move about in
