Hi Kim and Tilly,

You may want to add Potassium Nitrate to your first aid kit as well. It is Purple crystal and a powerfull antiseptic and stops bleeding as well. The vets use a solution of this and it turns brown when water is added. An old fashioned Styptic Stick that some Gentlemen used to use when their blades started to nick them when shaving. As allready mentioned Superglue is good as well. There is some new stuff on the market that perports to be liquid plasters. that stops bleeding and covers any wound in an aerosal can. Could be very usefull , Not had the need to use it ( touch wood ) but there if needed.

I'd definitely recommend a Dremmel! Due to Eli's dread of the nail clippers and my patheticness (if that's a word?!), his nails got really long, got a Dremmel last year after reading about it on here, and never looked back. You can get nice and close to the quick without hurting them, and if you do them regularly the quicks recede so you end up with nice neat little nails & a happy hound :)

Somewhere on K9 there's a link to a woman who gives clear instructions on how to get started with it, I'm sure someone cleverer than me would know how to find it?

ps hello Keith :)

Good god Keith, you remembered the toned arms! Me too, weren't they lovely, lucky girl.....no matter how many horses I've groomed over the years (and it's bloody hard work!) my arms have never ended up like that :(

I don't know if it is any good, but I have heard if you accidently cut the nail too short, you can use a match to stop the bleeding. Just rip it, let it burn a very short time and stick the hot end on the bleeding bit.

Have anyone heard of this before?
