The 28 day rule has been in since the start of the BWRA, members have had plenty of reminders about the deadline, and its their responsibility to make sure they don't miss it. It may well be an antiquated rule that needs updating, the time to change that is at the AGM, not when the racing season is underway and certainly not by a group of people in someones house. Rules are there for a purpose lets work within them

And just to quote the BWRA rule book under the heading MANAGEMENT

Rule 18

'All registrations and NEW memberships must have been

received by the National Registrar at least 28 days

before all Championship events (Bend, Staight and

Puppy/Yearing) for a dog to eligible to run. EXISTING

MEMBERSHIPS MUST HAVE BEEN RENEWED BEFORE

THE EVENT'

Therefore, it seems to me that there should be no fuss whatsoever as it

appears none of us fully understand the 28 rule. It appears existing

members can renew at anytime prior to a championship, and the

28 day rule only applies to NEW memberships only.

This is obviously why the BWRA commitee has allowed my dog to compete.

I wish I had read the rule book before...It would of saved a lot of

time and problems, and misunderstandings for everyone involved.

Kind Regards,

Paul

at the end of the day, it appears the 28 day rule has been misunderstood, and am glad that my situation and with the help of the BWRA and the rule book the situation has now become clear.

untill now I really wasn't gonna to Hall Green for the champs cos I didn't want to cope with the comments and back biting...

i just wonder if rory was a no-hoper if anyone would of cared...I doubt it...just hope he runs his best, and if and when he gets beat everyone has competed and had a good day.

kind regards to all

Well we have gotten ourselves into another pickle, The BWRA will be damned if they do or damned if they don’t allow Red Reign to compete in the championships. There are also others who have fallen foul of this rule And for what reason, the 28 day rule was formulated for one thing and one thing only and that was the regional championships, any of the first two dogs or bitches that won or came second in their respected weight class at the regional finals could not run in the said championships unless they had registered 28 days afore the championships.

All the regionals were run off 28 days prior to the championships. Some would run in the run offs and if they didn’t get first or second they never joined.

Why not join you may ask? Well the BWRA only ran a championship race meeting on the straight in those days and no more racing, and area league racing and interclub racing was and in some peoples minds still is the best racing to be had. So when the regional run offs were abandoned because of the lack of dogs running in them, the rule should have gone with them.

There were no bend championships when this rule was brought in, and due to the timing of the Bend championship this rule that has been left over from when whippets were counted in their thousands and not hundreds as it is now, this rule now is creating havoc, it has an adverse effect on the sport we are trying to promote.

Would I like to win the 28 lb dog R/ch without Red Reign being allowed to run? To me it would be a hollow victory. But then again, I aint running a 28 lb dog.

It is time in my opinion that a new system of registration was formulated, maybe a system of that you are a member until you ask to opt out of joining before the new year, and payment at the first BWRA meeting you attend could be the way forward.

Suggestions would be most welcome I am sure rather than the stamp and envelope to your club secretary and then passed on again to the regional sec, then on to the Registrar, then the same course back again, who thought this up, the post office are the only ones rubbing their hands together 7 stamps to pass on one card and back to its owner. Ok to keep the idea that you can only register by joining a club then have the club sec sign or send a list of club dogs and members that have joined the club. Lets go forward and not backwards. I would like to end by saying that for the majority of members who already adhered to the rule, it is no hardship to conform to it at all.

P.S. This is not meant as a snide remark to those who missed the cut off date.

In fact I know of one person who tried to join twice before the cut off date and he don’t race bend-racing whippets. Mind he is thick.

hi paul gary here wish i knew about this rule because the BWRA stoped me running come on ernie and come on sue at higegate for the same reason so i went and tialed them the following week ernie won his first open and the rest is history sue was runner up

not sure but wasant you in the bar at the AGM when sheila webb asked every body for there renewal cards could be wrong o:)

To clear up the point you have made Gary, Paul did come to see me at the AGM but was short of his BWRA card so I said "give it to me later" and unfortunately Paul thought he had joined the club at the AGM and that is where the misunderstanding happened.

As Gary Farmer has said people have missed bwra events due to the 28 day ruling in the past.....and seems this year there is a few that have missed out again ...probably all have good reasons for missing the last date to join ....why not sort this rule out now so all can run...

Totally agree with what john meads says:

Dee to lazy to swap user names

And, the only problem was I didn't have my card with me, as Sheila stated, in fact I'd lost it...and I have since paid an extra £3 to replace it.

Finally, and I hope this subject can please be left alone, cos I don't need the stress, the RENEWAL of my membership was received in time, the registration of pup was not, that along with it being mothers day on sunday means my new dog cannot run at this weekends event. Fine, he missed the 28 day registration rule, and that's no arguement.

I hope this subject CAN PLEASE BE PUT TO SLEEP, cos I really ain't enjoying this at the moment.

Please leave me and my dog alone, I have broken no rules, and I've had enough it.

Kind Regards,

Paul

hiya before i start ill say that i dont mind red reign running at all but think saying weve all read the rule wrong is a bit much so it took 30 odd yrs for some one to read it right lol.most clubs etc you join and are a member till you resign but as bwra takes membership every year we infact are new members every year.i mean rules can be read to siut quote fed ruling swallow nest classic dogs/ bitches sep in 6 classes rule 2 no dog under 12mths in adult handicap so if read properly i should be able to run a bitch then :D paul i dont think you should be quoting if he was a no hoper no one would mind im sure a lot of good and bad dogs missed in past years with same ruling .

well lets get post back on track tips for chps ill go midnight run sup and scoby dont bitches

THE SUBJECT OF MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS AND THE 28 DAY RULE WAS BRIEFLY DISCUSSED AT THE REPS MEETING 18TH DEC 2005 THE OUTCOME BEING IT SHOULD STAY AS IT IS.

MOST OF THE REPS PRESENT WILL REMEMBER THIS

AS THE REPS FORM THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN KEPT INFORMED OF THE SITUATION. IF ANY CHANGES WERE TO BE CONSIDERED.

WE HAVE ALL HAD MEMBERS IN OUR REGIONS AT SOMETIME WHO HAVE MISSED THE DEADLINE AND HAD TO MISS THE CHAMPS, WE HAVE ONE IN THE NORTH WEST NOW WHO HAS MISSED OUT.

It seems to me the commitee are doing as they like, changing rules as they like.

This 28 day ruling as been in for years & numerous dogs have been unable to run over the years [This is no way to run an organisation] BWRA commitee please get your act together.

would just like to ask if red reign had been transferred to a member who payed their membership within the 28 days, would we still have members saying he should,nt be allowed to run, after all a dogs registration is for life, so all the members who missed the 28 day dead line ( whatever way you want to read the rule )?? could just transfer there dogs to someone who as payed within the 28 days and then the dogs can run, (w00t)

Im not saying he shouldnt be allowed to run, but the commitee should not be able to change rules when they feel like it.[this rule should have been changed years ago] instead many dogs have been deprived of winning titles.
