My dog is 51lbs racing weight and I struggle to get him in most traps. If it says up to 55lbs should have traps so they all fit in comfortable not just the smaller dogs as with the smaller dogs you can always just put a bigger kick board in. But squeezing 55lbs dog s in whippet traps seems like an accident waiting to happen dogs welfare should come first. That's why I train my dog at Maltby as traps are for all. J.m.o

so should fed buy these we dont use em :ermm: it was just an offer but allways the same never mind ey...... think decisions on this should be left to the top table
I and everybody in the meeting didn't know anything had to be bought to try them Gary.We were told they had been tried, which is why Linda and Karen was approached by me to hopefully set up a date for the top table to see them in action. An offer of help is always a good thing, but seeing as we dont know now if the fed traps work as a block, then seems a bit silly spending money on something that possibly may not work.Might aswell save that money and put it towards whatever is gonna sort the problem of the traps out

we were told at the meeting that they had been used as block traps and were fine..... also Chris said they have been used as block traps and Julie said at the meeting they were used as block traps, at some point there must have been the rods and spacers ???

Before l was elected a welfare officer for the midland's l alway's voiced my concern's about the size of the block trap's, but since l took the job on (for what it's worth)

people are voicing THEIR concern's to me about them. l have posted my finding's, dog's size, trap measurement's etc., on here as l feel it is a genuine concern. ls'nt that what a welfare officer is suppose to do.

you are right von they were rods and spacers these traps were made to be handicap traps also block scratch traps there is 3 bars 1 that goes through the back of the traps 1 that goes through the front and the other through the doors locked up with spacers making them a block set

when all the stuff were moved from the garage at swallownest up north a few year ago the champs came back to swallownest so did the traps but only the traps we didnt run at swallownest due to the track being a bit short of grass through footballing so the champs were at poolsbrooke to be honest nobody would know what the rods and spacers would have been for so they probably got left or thrown anyway thats whats needed and the traps worked fine

the FED traps were made on the same principle as greyhound traps when bolted together they have 3 rods and spacers Chris Jackson (when he is free of his puppy duties will ) will get a costing on the rods and spacers if the BWRA are then happy to cover the cost Chris will go ahead and order what is needed, The BWRA are welcome to loan the NNWRF traps whenever needed without having to buy a set if however they prefer to have their own they will have the rods and spacers for them
as i understand from Chris you already have the rods and spacers and the traps have already been seen working as block traps this was already pointed out by Julie when ask at the agm so why would the bwra have to pay for more to be made ????
Chris wasn't at the AGM so the fact the rods and spacers had gone missing were unknown no need for nit picking the costs won't break the bank but they won't be down to the NNWRF as we have no need for them. the traps have been made to operate as single and block and worked fine as both, as has allready been stated the BWRA committee will be given a costing it is up to them if they want to go ahead, if they decide at some stage to have new traps made they will need the rods ect anyway or they can use them when they borrow the NNWRF traps

its a simple cheap solution to a problem

I think the BWRA should get rid of the block traps once and for all

(it makes common sense).....

Very few like them, they aren't suitable and are dangerous when front loading!

Dogs run out of them only once a year (the most important day for them at top level....)

Whether it is in the rule book or not (move forward and progress)...

All year you run out of single traps at all levels, club, open and national championships)

and I hear no complaints...

Just out of curiosity, how many slow traps or trap failures are from Fed straight Champs,

Everyone is very happy to run out of single traps then.

Get rid of this monstrosity, it’s like living in the dark ages!!!!!

Who will store them, they weigh a ton when moving them

(and setting them up for the weekend) then they have to be clamped down.

The finish line and camera has to be moved for run off's, with the single traps set up etc....

Its not fair that dogs are running out of one trap for some races …

and then switch to another for the all important run off....

Don’t waste any money having more made or adapted….just use what you have!!!

PS; I have won 2 supremes using the block traps,

but I still stand by what I say, GET RID!!!!!

so how much will it cost the members to have the rods and spacers made ???

i have had a call from the bwra asking me to do the rods and spacers i will sort them out in the new year and get the traps up and running so lets leave things at that for now
