Just wondered what, on average, size would you buy a crate in? ( just for at shows ) Just for one dog? Im quite a newbie to showing still and not used a cage at shows before but am thinking of buying one but am unsure as to what size and also wondered if you can get lightweight ones for especially for shows?

Thank you

Depends how many dogs you have. I like quite large ones, so all my dogs fit in comfortably together with my handbag (rather big and full) and my show accesories bag, and anything else I do not want to just sit around. :luck:

My crate is 42" X 27" X 25"wide and that fits 2 dogs very well and 3 if needed.

thanks for the reply. I'll only have one in it most of time, I thought 30 inch may be ok?

 I use a similar size cage as Seraphina, one of the metal ones, for two reasons.

1. You can put a padlock on it if you have to leave your dogs to go to the loo etc and

2. I saw a whippet rip one of those fabric ones to pieces at SKC last year. If we hadn't been at the next bench the owner would have come back to no dog.

Mine don't like them much as they are very dark inside and absolutely refused to go in one when I thought about buying one, but after that and the above experience, have stuck to the metal ones. Mind you I just think my lot are dead nosy and don't want to miss anything.

Ive got both sorts , but only take fabric one to shows , the metal ones are far too heavy for an `old girl ` like myself  If you are going to do Champ shows , it cant be more than 21" wide as that s the size of the bench ;) KC regs and all that .

Mine are fine in the fabrik ones , I suppose its how you bring your dogs up , a bit like unruly children   Of course mine NEVER do any thing wrong ( esp mayzee ) eh Dawn o:)

:- " Thought that's what the OH was for, doing all the fetching and carrying?

Thanks for the replies, I think i'll stick to metal as its good idea to padlock if nip to toilet like Jan said  , I take it theres no way you can lock the fabric ones? I spose they would be alot better for carrying!....guess i'll have to drag OH along! ;) :- "

Thanks for telling me about the 21 inch wide thing JAX, I wouldnt of known!

Any links of where to get a fabric one from??

I have both types, but like Jax, I use the fabric one for shows as they are so much lighter. I would just like to point out that it is not becasue I am old and past it!!! :- " I lock it with a small padlock through the tab of the zip.
