hi all i have an 18 month old female whippet she is so adorable. unfortunatley i have no papers for her and she is not kc registered either. according to the lady who i brought her from her father is pedigree and she has his papers and supposedly her mother is kc registered, at this moment she is trying to find the papers and give me details so i can try to register jess. I would love to allow jess to have one litter before i have her spayed but there lies a problem i think its customary to have a male isnt it ha ha  has anyone any ideas how i can go about doing this? i have been searching on the net for weeks now but all stud dogs i have come across are kc reg and havent found anyone yet who is willing to allow their male to mate my bitch. Please help has anyone any ideas ?

If the lady does find the papers for your bitches mother, the KC MIGHT consider registering her, but will ask for an explanation as to why they weren't registered just after birth! Even then they only might proceed with registration especially if the bitch is over 12 months old. I really think you will be very very lucky if you get her registered.

As to the stud dog, it's just a matter of trying until someone says yes, but they will usually charge a fee, for the stud which you need to take into account.

Have you considered about homing the puppies you don't want to keep if you do have a litter and the responsibilities you have about taking your stock back for whatever reason if the home doesn't work out, not just after they have left you but in the future too. It is quite a responsibility and I'm sure you will want to do things correctly.

Your decision to have her spayed is a sensible one but that doesn't mean you should feel obliged to have a litter from her before then.

Well said ,Jan

Its an old wives tale , that bitches should have a litter , And as Jan says , YOU are responsible for ALL the pups you bring into this world , So think long and hard before cosidering letting her have a litter .......please . Unless of course you already have lovely people waiting for puppies .

Im please Stud dog owners are being thoughtful to about letting people use their dog ......... how would you know that one might even be her brother (w00t)
