Hi All

I am picking up my new puppy at the week-end. I though you should not give any bones to puppies or adult dogs, but i have been reading some posting on K9 recently and it appears people do give their dogs bones.

So now i am confused, is it ok to give them bones and if it is what type of bones. :)) :))

A lot of people on here myself included won't give cooked bones to a dog as they can splinter, but chichen wings raw are fine(not until your puppy gets bigger though) I am not sure about raw bones as I don't give them but I am sure some one will let you know

Good luck with your new puppy and please put some pics on if you can

Hi Tonit

I have been feeding my two whippets on raw meaty bones since they were 8 weeks old. They are now three years and 18 months. Any bones fed MUST be RAW. Cooked bones become brittle and will not dissolve in the dogs natural stomach acid and can kill.

Most of the bones I feed are chicken carcasses and wings but they also have lamb bones. (Ribs and neck). Occasionally they have beef bones, which they enjoy, and particularly like the marrow. I seldom feed pig bones but on the very odd occassion they have had pigs trotters.

Bones are a natural food for dogs but only if raw.

I think mine would very quickly stop loving me if the supply of bones dried up

My dogs all thrive off raw bones - they are a natural food for dogs and keep there teeth really nice.

Good luck with your new puppy, can you let us have some more information and pics please? We all love puppies on K9 (as well as the older dogs of course!!)

Good luck with your new puppy :luck: Dont forget to let us see some pictures.

Yes I too feed bones on the advice of K9 - I would have never fed chicken wings till I saw all the advice on here - my whippets love them and look forward to them

I also feed raw lamb bones and raw beef mince, raw tripe.
