Hi All,

Just wondered if any of you can advice me on car doggy seat belt/harness's and where do I buy one and are they easy to fit? Can the dog lay down or would she have to stay in the sitting position all the car journey? Oh and do they come in different sizes for different dog sizes? Can they go in the back and the front of the car? I tried the local pet shop today but to no avail.

I had a car seat belt for my GSD from Pets at Home. It was great because you just attach it to the middle seat belt and the dog can stand, sit or whatever. If they do walk about a lot it does have a tendency to stretch the seat belt though. They come in lots of sizes so would probably fit a whippet.

I have an estate car now so the greyhounds go in the boot. I don't think I'd want to try lots of dogs with seat belts, it could lead to chaos. (w00t)

I tried one for Tess for a while, but she tied herself and it into terrible knots  so we gave up on that.

Pets at Home sell a red HI-Craft (I think) harness, we bought the medium which seems to fit our Whippy nicely. Also shove a duvet under your dog and they can't help but lay nicely on car journeys o:)

Thanks everyone for your replys. She is a bolognese so is tiny, in fact the cats are bigger!! She lays on a pillow in the front nicely but I worry in case I have to break suddenly and she gets thrown off the seat into the dashboard.

I met a woman the other day who told me that someone had their dog laying on the seat at the front (a jack russel it was) and the poor wee soul broke it's neck when the driver had to break suddenly and it got thrown off the seat. I will have a look in Pets at home.

Ive got one too Kirsty from Pets at home about £12.00 I think - bought it about 6 weeks ago. Kobis only tried it twice - and it does seem to keep him contained on the back seat.

apparently I think they will become compulsory eventually.

If you have a shop called ALDI by you try there. We got one for £1.99, sells for about £12 in B&Q, adjustable , lets the dog stand, sit, lie, can be used as a walking harness, is easy to fit - once you get the hang of it - and keeps them safe, stops them jumping on driver if there are no passengers to hold them, and in the event of an accident where the windows may break keeps them from running away. It has a quick release for getting out in a hurry too.
