I've just been into a shop, picked up what I wanted and went to pay.............They don't take cash.
I just turned around and walked out.
I don't mind paying by card but I will not be told that I have to

I'd likely have done the same. I understand why they like electronic payment, but they should have the option for people to use real money.

That said, I'm hankering after the chip you can have implanted, so you can use your finger to pay.

Not accepting cash can be a problem - what about people trying to hide money from an abusive partner? Planning to use it to escape?

Too dangerous to have bank statements going to the house in that situation

Bamburgh Castle is cashless and there are a few other places that are as well. There are also some that only take cash.

It’s a beautiful place to visit. I love the castle as well as the church at the other end. There is also the Grace Darling museum and the beach is stunning.

Interesting! I've been noticing the opposite here (in the US). If you pay with a card they add a "service fee" but if you pay in cash it's a slight discount. In other words lots of establishments seem to prefer cash. I've noticed it a lot with restaurants in Charleston which can be a big tourist area. I've found myself carrying more cash than usual. I notice younger generation tend to just have their phone, put their cards on their phone and pay with the phone, don't even carry a wallet anymore!
