Congrats to you Lana, and to Danny and Rieky also  Didn't know that the shield was named after your Bobby Lana- lovely to have him remembered in that way. Mana is obviously still going strong - she must be 7 or so by now? Well done all :)

i wonder why we don't have best baby???? in the uk

how old does the baby have to be lana for this?

Daledogs, Baby Puppy Class is from 3mths - 6mths.

Yes Gajo, I donated the Whippet of the Year Shield in memory of my darling Bob-the-dog. My uncle made it for me. It's quite large and has about 20 years worth of tags on it - and we have a lovely head study of Bobby in the centre.

Mana has just turned 7. She didn't have it all her own way though, winning by only one point - there were a couple of other bitches right there with her in the points run - her daughter Racci (Ch Kassdalee Cover Girl) and my Layla. There were only 6 points between first and third. (Layla could have tied with Mana if she had got BOB at the last two shows but she let her kids Dino and Aime beat her!) Then we had three other bitches not far behind tied on the same points. The competition in the bitches here is really good.

BTW Gary, did you get my email - I'm looking forward to a reply.

WELL DONE . LANA and DINO

Terriffic news

( Have you had any mil yet / ;) ?

 Well Done Lana

What a great acheivement you must be so proud

Thanks everyone but I must be honest - we didn't have a lot of puppies competing this year.

Next year will be the telling year for Dino, whether he can beat his GR CH Grandpappy (Read All About It - above) or his handsome cousin, Ch Kassdalee Major Scoop, or the other lovely dogs we come up against on a regular basis. He will start the year of in the middle of Junior Class - so he really will have to 'mix it with the big boys' so to speak. :p Of course I think he's got what it takes but naturally that remains to be seen. I can't wait to get back out there amongst it ... I hate this loooong break over summer. :(

( Have you had any mil yet / ? Quote Jax

mil = mail? Ah ... nup! Have you sent me something else????? Gees Jax, don't listen to what anyone else says, I think you're wonderful :* ;)

 Well done Lana and young Dino!!!

Me being more and more curious about the Australian Show Scene: what is the average number of whippets entered at shows in your area? And average for Australia?

Sounds like a lovely trophy Lana- no haven't received an email that i know of. Try again.

I can't speak for the rest of Australia Tamara - but hopefully we'll get some help from the other aussies on the board for this one.

Gajo/Whipoorwill can tell us about Brisbane (the capital of Queensland, the state I live in and about 12 hrs drive south of me)

Buntessa/Debra could tell us about Sydney (New South Wales)

Angus/Ibiza/Roshwen could tell us about Melbourne (Victoria) and

Cartman can tell us about Adelaide.

I live in Mackay, central Queensland and there is a city called Townsville, about 4 hrs north, and a city called Rockhampton about 4 hrs south. If all of the whippet people from these three cities met in one place and had all their dogs there, we would have about 40 whippets entered. But it's not often that we're all in the one place at the one time so an average entry is about 15-20.

In Brisbane exhibitors are very selective about which judges they will enter under. In the major cities we re a little spoilt- with at least 1 and sometimes up to 4 champ shows available to enter each weekend within a radius of a few hours drive. A brisbane entry can typically range from 1 or 2 through to 30+ whippets. In country regions sometimes a show may be available within a reasonable drive(say 3-4 hours) once every 4 or so weeks- a long time to wait between shows for lots of showies.

Hi Tamara,

I must admit i have been very slack over the last year since mum passed away. I did say i was going to start showing again but i think this has resulted in about three shows, the last show being the Whippet Club of New South Wales. We had a fair turn out for that show but not too many whippets were being shown other than speciality's. We have quite a big all breeds show coming up in November there might be Forty or so whippets entered. I have even entered this show on the Saturday but not Sunday. Getting too old to do two day shows now  . I must enter more shows as the husband is always complaining why have i got all these dogs if i'm not going to show them.

Regards

Debra :D 8)

Last year I drove 8 hrs north to a show hoping I would encounter some competition I had not met before and there were only three whippets entered - all mine! (w00t)

No fun in that at all is there  Shame the judge didnt come over to yours ;) ( whoever it was ?)

Showing regularly in Sydney, the numbers vary from week to week. Sadly, :( in the last 12 months, I've seen a decline in numbers and you can see anything from 2 to 62 at a show depending on the time of year, judge and what shows are on. The problem with high numbers is that on some weekends I have a choice of 4 shows on the one day.

Last Saturday there was a double show in Sydney, a triple in Newcastle (2 hours north), a triple in Goulburn (2 hours south) and a single show Carcoar (a few hours west). Unfortunately, this many shows fragments entries.

I went to Newcastle for the day show on Saturday. Entry was around 10. 2 babies, 1 dog and the rest were bitches. Dryburgh's won BOB with their Australian Bred Tezer bitch. PS, my baby Connor won Baby In Group :D The evening show I believe had less entries.

Sunday I exhibited my 2 babies in Sydney. There was 1 Minor Puppy Dog who was refused challenge, and about 8 bitches exibited. BOB went to a dark brindle Calahorra bitch owned by Wendy & Stuart Slatyer.

Sorry folks, didn't bring a catalogue home.

The Goulburn shows down south were varied with entries of about 3-5. Heard Peter Jones' Irish Barnesmore dog won BOB on Saturday, Amanda Huggins Puppy dog from Isilwane won BOB and Puppy Group Saturday night, and Sunday I'm not sure who won. Maybe Anne-Marie can fill in more details as she judged down there on the weekend.

To fragment entries more, there were major shows in Victoria on the weekend - Hound Club of Victoria being one. Haven't heard results yet.

No shows for me this weekend. Work to do with representing and promoting purebred dogs for the Royal NSW Canine Council at the 11th Sydney Pet & Animal Expo. 3 days of public asking for breed standards and breeders for Schnoodles, Labradoodles, Groodles, Maltese x Shih Tzu and other combinations. I hope my patience holds when I explain for the umpteenth time that these dogs are cross breds and not purebreds  I'll take some of my dogs along for promotion of the breed and to keep my company.

Some one may have asked this before , But are all shows in Aus Chhampionship shows ? Are some where you get points towrads Champ. status ?

And it seems you have the same problem here , too many shows in the `similar area , on the same day . , All taking the `same`dogs

I show quite reguarly at Newark (about 25 miles fom home) and the entry can range from 5 to 40 Whippets for an open show , although people showing their Champions at `OPEN` shows  have cut down some entries . :(

I know they have every right to enter , but why would you want to ? To be honest with you I cant see much point in showing a dog once it`s a Champion . I know peps who look at this board will disagree with me , and Im always pleased when a Whippet wins the group etc ,

But to show at OPEN shows really is POT hunting ( but it aint half great when you BEAT `em
