I have just read on another forum that Mars (Pedigree) are pulling out of Championship Show sponsoring at the end of the 2007 season although they will still be the principal sponsor of Crufts.

Thats interesting , and I noted that on Saterday when stewarding at the hound show , that they didnt give vouchers for the two puppy class winners like the used to .

Apparently some stewards werent giving them out , just pocketing them for themselves  Dont know wether thats true or not .

I wonder what will happen next year then

Or Royal Canin ;) They seem to be sponcering lots of breed club shows !

I think all companies, not only pet food, are trying to cut back. Sponsership is an eazy target. :(

Or entry fee's will go up! :(

Does sponsorship have any affect on your decision to enter a show or not, or is it 'just' a bonus when you win?

Well I hope another company is willing to take this up otherwise the exhibitors are really going to suffer from increased entry fees :(

Perhaps sponsorship is taken for granted - they put in a very large amount of money each show.

The Pedigree prizes at the Hound Ass were not given out in the whippet ring. Apparently they were put in the judges folders which is where they probably are still. pedigree gave me a replacement card but did tell me that they were getting alot of them nicked by stewards at the gen Champ shows and that it is really difficult to police.

Maybe they should ask to see the CC when the prize is collected.

My thoughts too Jo. I have never won anything important so I'm not going to miss the Special prizes but I appreciate how much they have put into the coffers of Ch Shows which I think must have reduced the cost to exhibitors. I suppose time will tell what the effect is.

As you know I stewarded at the Hound show , and I did comment on no prize vouchers etc for puppy class winners, It seems that some breeds that have small entries and no shows in MP and Puppy classes the stewards have not been handing them back in ( obviously this NEVER happens in whippets as our entries are too high , however, Pedigree decide to give stewards vouchers themselves because alot of society's do not give anything for stewarding apart from a bit of lunch. Now stewards dont want `paying` as such , but help towards cost of petrol ( which is what the Hound show does ) is a small reward to ask for IMO

Years ago (1990 s ) I always stewarded at Driffield and we got £2.00 :huggles: I was amazed to find it had gone up ........................to £3.00  come on . thats not even going to get you 2 cups of coffee  No wonder they cant get stewards is it ;)

As regards society's saving costs , they could do without the garden arrangement s around the BIS rings ands committee tents for starters , ;) I dread to think how much they cost .

All looks very pretty but not really needed IMO

Im sure there are lots of things they can save money on without us `bread and butter` exhibitors paying for all the `extra bits` the mighty few seem to benefit from .

garden arrangements? oh, you mean the pretty piddle-posts for the boys

totally agree, boys are just as happy to pee up the back of people chairs, bags, etc as they are flower pots  :- "

Pedigree have had all their BOB crufts car stickers stolen as well as a lot of the bags, so what was probably a once in a lifetime thing for me I just have a blank BOB sticker for the car

I cannot understand what one person could do with loads of BOB stickers for the same year!

No wonder pedrigree are upset.
