kenny / well what do you propose to make opens more attractive ????less weight classes ? two weight classes 2 dogs 2 bitches with a four dog run off or do we just carry on watching solos and boring equal runs

i dont know Neil, maybe a lot less opens.IMO,theres to many points i like to support opens but you cant be in two places at once,theres just to many opens on up and down the country,if theres a good open on you can garantee a club will stick an additional on,so the few people that might of jumped in the motor and went for a day out will stay local..

i would love to have all the answers and be good turn outs at clubs but until the opens are slashed we will see less and less attendances at our opens,this is just what i think and i think a few people will agree

dif weight classes wud b good not the usual 20/24/28/32 or 20/25/30/35 imo 5yards start is far too much to give away try 3lb weight groups more 2ft per 1lb have more time trial opens still have abcde racing lots of variety is good

Agree with that more 2ft & 1/2 yard lb makes better racing

most if there honest want a format that fits there dog :teehee: a lot are 2 foot and half yards in finals 160 165 150 do think kens right too many opens clashing abc could be good at some opens but not all

I AGREE WITH WHAT YOU ARE SAYING BUT NOT IN ALL OPENS ,BUT SAY WHAT DISTANCE WOULD IT BE ?IS IT GOING TO BE YARD LB,2FT LB OR HALF A YARD LB AND ALSO YOU WOULD GET DOGS RUNNING WITH BITCHES SOME DOGS CAN CHALLENGE THE BITCHES BUT WOULD YOU GO MILES AND MILES TO RUN WITH YOUR SAY 25LB DOG TO GIVE THOSE LITTLE BITCHES LIKE PRADA 4 OR 5 YARD START ? IMPOSSIBLE TASK AND JUST COS YOU GOT BEAT IN THE HEAT WITH A GOOD LITTLE BITCH YOU MIGHT ALSO GET ANOTHER IN THE SEMIS OR FINAL YOU ARENT GOING TO PLEASE EVERYONE BUT YOU WOULD GET A DECLINE IN DOGS AS EVERYONE WOULD BE GOING FOR BITCHES AS 9 OUT OF 10 TIMES BITCHES ARE FASTER THAN DOGS WHICH WOULD RESULT IN FEWER STUD DOGS WHICH MEANS THERE WILL BE LESS PUPS .I KNOW SOLOS ARE A SOMETIMES BORING SO HERES A FEW ALTERNATES SOMETIMES SAY IF ALL DOGS ARE STRAIGHT FINAL WHY NOT RUN THE DOG FINAL THEN THE WINNER IF HE WANTS TO RUN WITH THE BITCH HAS TO SOLO THATS ONE WAY OR IF YOU CAN SAY THAT ONLY ONE CLASS HAD TWO HEATS COULDNT YOU PUT BOTH IN THE FINAL THEN THE WINNER WHO COMES IN FIRST WINS THE CLASS OR YOU COULD MAKE THE CLASSES BIGGER SO SAY 3 DOGS MAKE IT INTO THE FINAL OR ANOTHER WAY IS TO DO UP TO 25LB AND 35LB AND MAKE IT THAT WAY SO THERE IS UNLIKELY TO BE ANY SOLOS.OR YOU COULD SAY FOR EXAMPLE 4 DOGS NEEDS TO SOLO PAIR THEM UP THEN ITS DONE TWICE AS QUICK

I HAVE HAD LITTLE DOGS IN THE PAST AND DONE SOLOS BUT YOU CANT BLAME THE DOGS YOU CAN ONLY RUN WITH WHATS THEIR.

What about all in opens, no groups, dogs a yard sex allowance, luck of the draw you wouldn't know who you would be racing against week in week out. You may well get some heats with the best dogs in but you may just as easily draw a heat with more average dogs in it, which may give a chance of a win to the more average of dogs. You wouldn't get solo's either :thumbsup:

This is just my opinion, the opens nowadays are leaning towards the larger dog (1/2 yd &2ft). there doesn't seem to be many for the smaller whippet(yds/lb all in etc) and yes i know the smaller ones are still winning at times. There aren't many 2lb classes either.

There used to be some opens in earlier times with good attendances (up to 200 entries). lots with 100+.

But my opinion is that it's not the amount of opens it's the lack of dogs. There are a lot less on the scene than in the past.

What may be needed is getting more folk into the sport. More folk=more dogs=better attendances.

MY OPINION IS THERE IS JUST TO MANY OPENS WHAT EVER THE FORMAT.BUT I THINK YOU WILL SEE OVER 100 DOGS AT SCOTLAND FOR THE DERBY WEEKEND. AND ALSO I THINK THERE WILL BE 200 OR MORE AT OLDHALL ON SHOW OVER THE CHAMPS 3 DAYS END OF AUGUST. BUT PEOPLE CAN ONLY GO TO CERTAIN ONES FOR DIFFERNT REASONS BUT WHTHER THERES 40 DOGS OR 100 DOGS AT OPENS LETS ENJOY THIS GREAT SPORT.
