Chaos With Whippets!

We have two whippets, George (neutered and 15 months old) and Archie (17 weeks) and their behaviour seems to be getting out of hand. When they are calm they are delightful together. However, the rest of the time they do nothing but scrap. They are very vocal and delight in grabbing each other - both now have several scars!! Is this just dogs being dogs or is this out of hand! Does anybody have any ideas about the best way of dealing with this. I have tried sidetracking with toys etc but then they use the toy as an excuse to scrap. Will it always be like this????

My girls are now starting to settle, one 23 mths and one 15 mths.

Although i must admit they have never hurt each other, we just

had a bloody ear from one session of rough housing.

Someone will hopefully come along soon to give you some advice.

my lot ages 6 two sisters aged 3 a 2 year old and 2 pups aged 13 weeks they all play fright all day long when there awake the pups yap and bark at each other and the other dogs do join in abit but have got quiet as they go older. but even with all of them in mid restel you get the odd screach if someones over ruff but hey never get actuly hurt. If mine are realy overexcited a good long walk and a charge about in the felads wares them out

The noise is unbelieveable , and you would think they are killing each other , but its just real rough house

Harvee is now being chased by Peanut instead of the other way round :lol: Poor Harvee , For such a short time he was no longer at th bottom of the pack :teehee:

When they do get too mental I have to part them and put Harvee in the hall for `time out``until he calms down a bit .

You must make sure they dont hurt each other and do perminent damage. Esp to the younger chap :huggles:

my 11month old and 6month old get really stuck in at times , i do step in and calm the situation before it gets out of hand :wacko: :wacko:

sometimes this means splitting them up and at times i will put 1 in a crate for a few minutes to defuse it :blink: :blink:

with age they will settle down :thumbsup:

just step in when it gets abit full on :thumbsup:

Ours are 2 and 9, and still go through phases of it (though always silently), so it's not just something youngsters do I'm afraid. They know they're not allowed to do it in the house but always try it on when we're staying with my parents, probably because they get a bit bored and under-stimulated in comparison with their home routine. Distraction works quite well, they will usually retreat to their own beds if offered a chew.

the worst one in my house is willow my old girl, she is 13 yrs and seems to be in the middle of any playing that is going on, and like jax said the noise is awful, esp when you'v 7 dogs playing :lol:

but if i think its getting out of hand i stop them.

mine play more in the mornings as we dont go for our walk untill about 11, after that their all nice and quite -_-
