Hi
My rescue beagle who is probably about 12 has chronic leukemia probably at least since easter, and he was diagnosed via routine blood tests a couple of months ago. The vet advised treatment was fairly pointless and not in the dogs best interest, as the dog is old and gets very aggressive when taking blood (he needs to be muzzled and pinned down by 3 people), and has no idea how long he has left.
He was symptom free apart from mild congunctivitis he couldnt shake off, but his condition has been deteriorating over the past few weeks. His coat is a state (he has tufts all over his legs and head - more tufts than normal fur, and a bald patch under his collar, it looks a bit like he has mites), the congunctivitis is worse despite the eye drops the vet prescribed, he throws up a few times a week, is not excited about mealtimes and doesnt eat half the time (and this is a beagle!); he collapses about once a week now too.
Took him back to the vets yesterday, and his (poor) health is due to the leukemia, so nothing much can be done. His quality of life is good enough that he isnt ready of euthenasia yet; he still wanders about the house and likes his walks.
Anyone been through something similar? Now he is having multiple symptoms is this the beginning of the end?
