Hi I have reserved my first ever greyhound so I'm reading up on them to find out all I'll need to know. I understand they often have teeth problems and so it's important to keep them clean. How do you clean them, and do you use any special doggy toothpasty stuff? (please don't laugh I've never had a dog so I really don't know). I've seen some chew toys which are meant to scrape teeth to keep them clean, are these any good?

Thanks

Sarah

Theres a number of things you can help to keep their teeth clean & plaque free ~ you can brush their teeth with doggy paste on a finger brush which you can buy from most pet shops, you can give them bones or dentistix which will help, there are other ways but as you are a newbie to greyhounds i wouldnt worry about those... personally i would give him / her a good bone till your both more used to each other...

Good Luck with your new family member... when do you pick him / her up?... please tell us more... :)

Good luck with your new dog. Hope we can see pics when you have the time

Re the teeth cleaning thing - there's an old thread here which has lots of info in: do you clean your dog's teeth? it's in the FAQ section of K9 where there are lots of topics on health, pet insurance, feeding etc. Here's the link: FAQ

most good rescues will have there greyhounds have there teath checked and any work done before there rehomed usuly when there nuterd check when you collect yor dog. and basicaly get him/her chewing dry foods raw bones pigs ears. that usualy does the trick

ask you butcher for lamb rib bones and feed 3/4 times aweek works better than any brush

Ahh that's all very useful. Thanks. Think I'll go for bones to begin with then. I've just had my homecheck and a talk about feeding, housetraining etc so I should be getting her tuesday if all goes to plan. I have a picture of her from the website, here: http://www.rgtcroftview.co.uk/RGTCroftview...8/Kennel_36.htm

She's a real sweetie, she was a bit sore when I visited her on saturday because she'd only just been spayed a couple of days before. She was leaning on my leg it was so cute! I might change her name, not decided yet.

She's lovely! I got my first rescue greyhound in November and it's the best thing I've done in a long time. Jack is a gentle giant - they really do make wonderful pets. Be warned though - you might not stop at one!!! We now also have a whippet pup to keep us all (Jack included) on our toes! All the best when you get your girl home - bet you can't wait. :luck:

She looks adorable and Cash is a nice name.

I use a doggy toothbrush and toothpaste from Pets at Home, I also put Plaque Off in their food Vet Medic and feed pigs ears too.

She looks lovely, Sarah! A real beauty

Yes she's lovely, I absolutely can't wait. My dad didn't want a dog to begin with but I swayed him, now he's been going on about them a lot, and now my whole family is looking forward to getting her, well maybe not the cat so much, hehe they may turn out best of friends, you never know.

Congratulations, she's absolutely gorgeous

You won't regret it, I've had rescue greyhounds around for nearly 20 years now and they are the most fantastic, loving dogs ever.

She is beautiful, my very favourite colour. Lots of pix needed when she comes home.
