Thanks so much for your comments and good wishes everyone.

I'm expecting my vet will ask for another chargeable consultation in order for them to issue a prescription for more medications.
Does anyone know if that is necessary if Bailey appears to be doing well, healthy and happy while on Furosemide and Vetmedin? Obviously we want the best for him but I really don't want to give my vet more money than is absolutely necessary.

Thanks again everyone.

My vet doesn’t charge anything other than the cost of the prescription which if I remember was about £15, could possibly save you a fair bit of money ;)

The vet should only insist on a consultation if they wouldn't be willing to sell you the drugs themselves without a consultation. The last time I asked my vet for a prescription for J's arthritis meds, she wanted to have a consultation because she hadn't seen him for ages, and that was fair enough. Other times I've just requested a presription by phone and can then go and pick it up.

You could always ask your vet if they're happy for him to continue on the drugs without another consultation and if they say yes, then ask for a prescription. If they then decide they'd really like to see him, consider changing vets!
