Whilst reading my local paper i came across a advert for colliedoodles which is a cross between a collie and a standard poodle. They are advertising them as "hypoallergenic" i was wondering if any one has heard of this and if so could some one shed a little light on how this would work?

A cross like this won't breed to any predictable standard, some of them may have non-shedding poodle coats, some may have collie coats. To claim they will be 'hypoallergenic' is rubbish - and if someone wants a dog with a poodle type coat what's wrong with buying a poodle?

If people are willing to pay good money for mongrels more fool them :(

 Couldn't have said it better!

My friend has standard poodles cos she is allergic to dog hair. As we go to lots of agility shows we see all sorts of dogs & I've seen a couple of "colliedoodles"

The first one looked exactly like my friends silver standard but with a bushy tail. The second one was pretty similar but a bit smaller than st poodle size. Both were nice looking dogs & non shedding. But I agree that at puppy age you would not be able to tell if they were shedding or not & by the time the new owner realises their "hypo allergenic " dog sheds hair it's going to be too late. Upset (& itchy) (w00t) owner & dog rehomed :(

Changing the subject slightly, in our local free-ads paper there is an ad for a litter of pups..........wait for this........... Bedlington/Springer spaniel X Border terrier/ Collie.

Now if that's not a "Heinz 57" I don't know what is & they were asking £80 for each pup (w00t)

Our local paper carried an advert for Three Quarter Pugs at £850 each (w00t)

and my daughter was telling me about someone she works with having a litter of Shih Tzu x Poodle and yes you've guessed what they called them Shiht Poos. I asked her to get a picture of them if possible so she's going to try, I'm not sure how much the lady is flogging them off at but you can bet your bottom dollar it will be for plenty.

Bull Terrier + Shitzu

Bull..... Oh, never mind

although i can obviously see that a pup with that number of odd x's is obviously a heinz 57 (or *local* park special as we call them round here  )........i don't think £80 is a silly price to ask to try and ensure a good home for them (seems to be roughly what a lot of rescue centres charge)

i get much more worried for the poor little mites when i read Free to a Good Home as i fear for the kind of people that will attract :(

£80 is about what rescues charge but that almost always includes vacs, worming, flea treatment and neutering plus they are vet checked, it still seems a lot to me for what at best can be called a cross breed.

It is also a brilliant way of avoiding any restrictions on how many litters you can have from a bitch - a puppy farmers dream come true, knock 'em out twenty to the dozen to suit fashion. The sooner this fashion for x breeds stops the better.

I have a collie, a pure bred that is good looking, but i cannot find any collies in my area. I'm thinking of trying to breed her with a poodle. The thing is I'm not sure #1 if they will sell, and #2 what they will look like. I love collies, but I thought I would give this a try. What do you guys think?

Why do you want to breed your collie at all?

(Edited to say I suspect this is a wind up???)
