My cat is 14 (and has only 3 legs) and my 2 whips are ok with her - they are are 1 year old and 19 months old. They can sometimes go too close for her comfort and she will warn them away - even the odd swipe - but fingers crossed - nothing more than that. I agree that them being brought up with her since being pups has probably helped.

I love this photo. Blue and Hoshi (our cat) tolerate each other but I don't think I'll ever find them cuddled up like this!

When I got my first whippet puppy, then 3 more over time I had a cat she told them how it was from day one, but last year she died she was 14.
I would be dubious about introducing cat now I dont think they would leave it alone, not in a nasty way because they are used to a cat but they would just torment it to death o:)

So my advice would be with a puppy it should be ok but with a fully grown rescue I'd think twice

Sometimes rescues check to see if the dogs they have are cat friendly so it might be worth asking

Thank you im almost 100% sure im going to get a whippet puppy. With everyone sharing their experiences, i feel that the situation will be ok with my 2yr old cat. Just need to find the right time, & reputable breeder. Many thanks

Those two look absolutely cute, melts my heart!

just to add my two pennies worth- i have 6 cats and my dogs are fine with them. they seriously dislike stray cats in the garden though.

i see no reason why things wouldnt work out great if you start with a puppy x :)
