Just a small unrelated show brag ...

On the weekend, Connie a.k.a. Aust Ch Peperone Marquis, was temperament tested to become a part of the pet therapy program, which is nation wide in Australia and SHE PASSED!!

We looked very funny with all the German Shephards, and for a moment I though we both may have been a little out of our depth, but the people running the assessment were absolutely thrilled with her performance and Connie proved that she had better nerves than me!

The test involves, walking past other dogs and being patted by a stranger (the easy bits) followed by being cornered whilst about 3 - 4 people give your dog heavy petting that they can't escape from, (not so easy!!) and exposure to wheelchairs and walking frames etc. (which I might add the German Shephards hated, but Connie took in her stride and went up and investigated without having to be told to!)

The conclusion of the test consisted of a recall (fastest on the day by an absolute mile!!) and lots of shouting and yelling, attempted kicks up the bum and restraining cuddles. Connie took all this in her stride and actually came back for more!! (Big scarey man didn't scare her!!, in fact she made me laugh with the look on her face which said "Mum these people are idiots ... don't they know how to behave in public!!) :D

On the day 5 German Shephards passed, as did a Curly coated Retriever and Connie, with 1 German Shephard and 1 Cocker Spaniel failing!

So needless to say we will be taking each 2nd Sunday off from the show ring to visit the old folks home and give them a bit of whippet love!!

Cheers

That's an understatement Gary. Living with Angus one would deserve a medal   He temperament tests everyone at the McLeod household. lol.

Way to go Connie.

 Well done Connie... clever girl

Well done - it sounds like they do a very thorough testing, and it is not something that all dogs would be temperamentally suited too. Sounds like Connie is calm and confident which is what she will need to be. o:)

My Zephyr is a PAT dog here, and went into school last week to help me give a talk to the Year 2's ( 6--7 year olds ) on how to keep your dog healthy. We also talked about keeping safe around dogs, and ended with some tricks like weaving, bowing, retrieves etc, which the children loved. :) We had to do this to all 3 classes, and Zephyr behaved like a dream every time, I was really proud of him. :huggles:

Here is a picture of Zephyr in his PAT dog gear to show Connie!

Well done to both Connie and Zephyr you must be very proud of them, I doubt whether mine would be brave enough to take all the tests although they are fine with people and other dogs.

Ah - well done Connie - what a clever girl. :huggles: and :* 's to you for being such a darling.

And Zephyr ... you're looking mighty handsome there mate. Fancy putting up with three classes of munchkins one after the other. You deserve a medal!

Well Done Connie on passing your test. I love it that Connie's was the fastest re-call by miles. I'm sure your visits will be eagerly anticipated.

Zephyr you never cease to amaze me, so many strings to your bow and so handsome with it.

Jenny

WOW!!!!!! A nation wide programe that gives therapy to Peperone's. If it was a pass for JMc then you would call it certified.

Connie told me to tell Zephyr that he looks very charming in his get up and will return the favour by posing when her uniform comes in the mail!!!

Thanks for your congrats guys! I'm still as proud as punch of her!!!

Well done to both Connie and Zephyr

My gang would try to chew the wheelchair as it whizzed on by, nibble at the walking frames & leap up & kiss everyone knocking out their teeth - not disciplined enough the brat pack of NZ (w00t)

A proud brag to have on your card
