heard the cough is around.whats the preventions/remedys.???????????????????????/

knowing my luck mine will start coughing the day before we go to ayr (w00t)

I put Lucy on 1 capsule of Echinaccea, 1 capsule of Devil's Claw, a tablespoon of Honey mixed with warm water 3-4 times per day. Kept the room warm, made sure she drank plenty of water and kept her quiet in the chair by herself.

She came down on Monday and (paws crossed) the only time she has coughed today is when she's gotten giddy messing about, she's had it very mild, no real gutwrenching or prolonged coughing bouts, no runny nose, no coughing up mucous. More of a sniffle than a full blown cold.

pass 2 years i'v had my lot jab against it Dave !! its always a worry and since i was told its around again all i'v been doing is waiting to hear a cough (w00t) lol

Not sure if I've read that right David but have you been told to give your dog 2 teaspoons of disinfectant to drink ?

tcp, also do same to mine diluted of course, tcp anticeptic fleesh....................not disinfectant

As far as I'm aware TCP, like Dettol contains phenols which are corrosive to a dog's oesophagus. Not sure exactly how much would cause damage but there is info out there about it being a danger to dogs.

Trying to get them to be calm and quiet so the dont cough is a nightmare!

Ours are all fine so far (touch wood) but when they had it a couple of years ago we gave them ice cream and manuka honey. It seemed to help, they certainly liked it anyway

i had a couple of dogs years ago who caught kennel cough they seemed to have it for days before it went by it self it is distressing for dog and owner its very much like our selves you get a cough and it just goes eventualy the only advice i would give to any body is keep them off the track because you know when youve got a bad cough how crap you feel and if your really concernd theres always the vets

last time i took mickey whizz 2 the vets for the cough they told me to give him benylin and charged me £28.00!!!!

had 5 dogs @ the time and the only 1 that didnt get it was the 12 year old as she had had the cough b4.

When my Boo had it the last time it was going around all i did was leave her in the house doing what she wanted kept her quiet cos any movment she didnt want to do seemed to set her off so she did as she pleased i took her house collar off so it didnt touch her neck and just gave her honey and milk a few times a day to try and sooth it for her.

No sign of it with our dogs so fingers crossed its not a new strain that will work its way through ours.

Hope all who have got it get well soon :luck:
