HELP GOT A PUP THAT KEEPS CROSSING OVER LEFT,AFTER COMING OUT OF TRAPS. ANYONE GOT ANY ADVICE ON STOPPING THIS?

First of all a question, has your pup always ran in this way, if not get your pup to your nearest dog osteopath and get him or her checked out as an injury to his right hand side muscles or body frame will force the pup over to the left when under pressure.

IMO Once and dog/bitches starts trialling and runs either to the left or right it will continue to do so. It is just one of those things and I doubt very much that you can stop a dog from choosing a side. Unless the puppy is carrying some sort of injury which makes it favour this side.

Even in Greyhound racing you have ones that are seeded either as wide or middle runners. If you have ever watched greyhounds racing you will see sometimes one that requires the 6 box but is placed in say the 3 it will come out and run straight to the outside of the track. Same applies to a railer that is placed in say the 3 box it will come out of the traps and run straight to the rail.

In straight racing where whippets are concerned they are seeded either left or right and by doing this it helps the whippet from "accidentally bumping" into another dog through crossing over.

Hope this helps with your query but I'm sure other people will come on and give you some more advice regarding this subject.

u can try blinkers,,u can ask an older member about it as they will know how to attach it to ur dogs muzzel,,,blinkers r only normally used in solo runs and only hav a 50/50 chance of working,,,if ur track has a fence running parallel dont use them,,,,normally u would blinker both sides let ur dog run solo runs for 2 or 3 weeks then take them off and see if there,s any results,,,,,

thats only an other option if theres nothing medical wrong with ur pup,,,,,

blinkers r normally used for the longer run ,,,not normally for out the trap but it might work stranger things hav happened,,,,,

my dog is a right handed runner. i think this was because when he was a pup he was always the back dog and with the lure coming from the left the front dogs always went to the left slightly. to get a get a sight of the lure and to overtake (or avoid any fencing) he always went right. if think this was where the problem occured, but going left? i know some do, but not as severley as right hand runners. just try trialling the dog on his own for awhile, and then see what he does.

that's what i've done with the younger one..and at the moment he seems to pretty straight running...

regards,

Paul

i have a severe left hand runner, and he is just as bad as his dad who is a severe right hand runner, again unless they are carrying an injury a dog will run on what ever side it chooses

stop pretending u know what your talking about deb :D

I think if it was a injury John it would be on its left hand side think about it.

Geoff i have thought about it and came up with the same answer, the strong side will always outpull the weak side, think about it as if you are rowing through water geoff

my blue dog has always gone straight over to right side, and he's 5 this year sue

I would say dont give it a second thought our Biddy was an out an out right hander it didnt stop her running.

why not after been checked.put the lure in front of trap and keep it on its nose to keep its mind on catching the lure straight up the middle :luck: hopefully minor niggle. i think if dogs run wide they checking across so not hitting top speed +doing 2or 3 yards extra . :luck:

I think a lot of this left/right hand runners ---they are a result of training and having the lure to far in front ----- it should be under the nose of the dog and the dog should course the lure albeit left or right and tracks without tapes/rail or a boundry up dont help the old way of training rag dogs is helpful tapes a yard wide and get the dog running straight ---if you want to try but it must be done from an early age firstly over 25-50yards with a treat at the end when done right ---can try nothing to loose-- if you put food on lure and they know its there often can make a difference also--

My uncle told me to give that a try too.

I think it makes the biggest difference when you have something thats a right hand runner and is going to give a start in finals, they tend to hang back and cross over the back of the dogs in front.

Ella tends to stay in her place with dogs either side off scratch but will cross to the right when giving start

some run up middle others favor a side otherwise we wouldn't need seeding (w00t) worst i ever seen was samsara must of lost yards but still won her racers classy bitch  i reckon johns right though best to get em checked out first as a dog will favor a side if injured :)) been schooling my scratch dog over winter straight as a dye :) now shes decided she likes the right hand side typical woman (w00t) no offense girls :D

this might sound stupid but here go,s  i walk me dog on the left side wen out on walks ,,,,never on the right,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and i hav noticed he always runs on the left,,, never on the right ,,,,
