Hi all,

I am amused at the talk of all that chocolate and food and wonder if any of you 'cruftstonians' could clarify something. This time last year I had never been in a show ring and went to Crufts with daughter (not in a pushchair) and watched the whip dogs. We both said ooh I wonder if we will ever be here with a dog. Now to our amazement, excitement and thoughts of heaven, we will be going with our boy. At Ringcraft and at some shows I hear people saying, oh Crufts is nothing its just another Champ show. Surely not, my dream, dismissed in that way. I thought it was the most famous dog show in the world, please someone tell me how you view the great event. Encouragement needed, I thought it was an honour to qualify??? :- "

And thank you Jax, my discussion re testicles did mean 'full mature size' at 10 months.

:huggles:

I suppose some of us `old hands at showing ` do think of Crufts as just another Champ show , but I remember my first ever show dog` Simon `quailifing for Crufts at my first ever Champ show (w00t) . I was told I wouldnt win anything cos he was too big ! and the wrong colour  I thought i might never qualify a dog again , so i entered him anyway and we got 2nd :p . I stood in the ring with a smile like a Cheshire cat  < I was in heaven

It is the Biggest Dog show in the world and take no notice of us moaners . You have a jolly good day in the knowledge you are amongst the elite of dogs and lots of people may still only dream of qualifying . It is an Honor to qualify , well done ;

Have a good day , I look forward to meeting you . One tip though. bring a change of footwear , You will be amazed at how tireing it is on your feet :(

and GOOD LUCK :luck:

Im just the same. Always viewed it as THE event of the year and always wanted to go. We race greyhounds, which, is a great sport but after following " Dee Dee's Delight" and watching the whippet winning last year i just wanted one. So after going on and on about wanting one i finally got my wish (after all they are minature Greyhounds) We are starting our show life together next month and hopefully qualify for Crufts next year. I am going there with my mother this year just to get a feel of the place so i am ready for next year!!!!

So yes it is a dream come true and good luck in the show

I'm an Aussie - never been to Crufts but its reputation here is VERY high. It is a dream to show a dog there and for some Aussies just a far off wistful wish to actually be there in any shape or form. You hang on to your images of glory and greatness! (But don't let them overwhelm you in the ring - whilst you are showing it would be helpful to your nerves to think of it as 'just another dog show') :)

Crufts is fabulous   there really is nothing quite like it in terms of atmosphere and excitement - I first went as a child in 1972 and was hooked, and have missed only two since - and I never get bored :p Some years we stayed in a hotel for the whole four days. :))

For years I was really into obedience and agility, but always tried to go on hound days as I loved seeing the whippets, deerhounds and salukis. When I finally had my own whippet four years ago, I wondered if I might be lucky enough to show him, and to my amazement he qualified at his first champ show! It was a fantastic experience, and since then he has got ihis stud book number so is qualified for Crufts for life, so hopefully will be there many more times!

You can buy ANYTHING you could possible want for your dogs, and will go home with your arms down to the ground with the amount of bags you'll be carrying, but most of all you will see thousands of wonderful, well behaved dogs in fabulous condition and they are a fantastic sight indeed. :huggles: The special events ring is well worth a visit as there are some great displays on all day.

Just like Jax both of us were excited at the prospect of our first CRUFTS !!!! and very pleased to have qualified.

I am still quite happy to go under almost all judges at CRUFTS but Richard is as selective as he is for normal Ch shows.

In my opinion two sorts of exhioitors are at CRUFTS irrespective of the judges

1 Those who are not cynical 'old hands at showing' and go for the thrill and experience.

2 Those who regularly place at top level shows and are known world wide.

Having said that, those in group 2 do normally have something suitable for at least one of the judges. Whereas those like us who only keep only the single sex have less choices :D

BUT having said all that I do still really enjoy the atmosphere and usually try to go at least twice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is crufts set out to the same floor plane every year as i whent on the crufts sight and it looed the same as last years but it allso had 2004 on it so wounderd weather they had not updated it or do they use the same one hope they do then i wont spend hafe the day getting lost like i did last year.

Dear all,

Thanks for all your kind words, and yes I take it on board, it is great to be going and quite honestly I too have the 'wrong' colour dog, so I expect nothing. I shall be taking the camera and endless photos cause it might well be the first and only time!!!! and what is it they all say - you take the best dog home!!! It will be nice to meet people there - please say hello, you'll know us, mother, teenage daughter and the minority colour 'blue' dog - not many of those!!! :huggles:

What ever sex your blue whippet is you wont be the `wrong` colour as both Carole and Jessie have had Blacks/Blues in the past :)) If they think it is good enough to get a place then you will be placed , irrespective of colour

I think you are going to have to extend that to three categories Dawn because I enter, virtually irrespective of the judge, because I view Crufts as the 'shop window' and it is not necessarily what the judge does but what people see from the ringside so I will try my best to enter at least one male, and I would consider that I fall somewhere between your 1 and 2!!

This really cant go on ! I agree with Caroline YET AGAIN !!

Apart from the odd judge whose opinion I really dont want  or who has already given me a negative (w00t) feedback on my dog , I do tend to enter under anyone else , cos It really is the place to be seen :b .

Although the few times I havnt entered a dog I have enjoyed the show much more , cos you can leave when you want for starters ;) and you dont have to worry about people getting in the way of your dog :p

STEADY!!!!

I can't cope with this!!! LOL!

Crufts is Crufts and there is no other show like it, however I will not enter under a judge at Crufts who I would not enter under at a normal champ show. As I dont have dogs at stud or produce that many puppies I dont need to showcase either.

I actually enjoy Crufts better without a dog to worry about. So not in any category really. :(

Agree 100% with Jan

Jax what are you 'showcasing' and to whom?

A stud dog (as per Jan's post) I can almost see justification in - but most folk there are the same as at the other shows where YOUR type of dog (whoever / whatever that is) will be shown and win anyway so they have a better and less stressed environment to see just what YOU have on offer.

Ive just remembered we should be getting our WHIPPET BIENNIELS TOO !!.

Dawn , as you know , judges who we think will like our dogs , dont always :( , and maybe showing under someone who I really am not sure will either like or dislike Mikkee is worth the effort of taking her . Im sure Mikkee will love that big , green carpet whatever

I think that there are, perhaps, a few more people at Crufts than would attend normal Ch shows and, on the reverse side, dogs that you would not normally see either.

I don't necessarily take much notice of the class placings but I do like to see what dogs are being shown. I doubt that Rupert & Aimee would be here now had their sire not been shown at Crufts.

I agree with the comments already made and you do certainly see people showing who you thought were no longer active. But they turn up year after year.

My first Crufts was the last year it was at Olympia, boy, was that an experience, followed by Earls Court. Must say it doesn't seem to have the same 'pull' as when it was in London, perhaps it's because that's the only time I ever went to the great metropolis. Mind you, I was always relieved to get off the tube at Finchley and back on the M1.

Anyway I'll be there with BJ because he just loves that big ring. There's also still the challenge of getting into the cards. Don't ask me why the Crufts cardboard is that much different to any other Champ show other than it is THE place to be seen.

I will have my Danish owners (crikey that sounds grand) with me this year as they are first timers, so it will be interesting to see it from their viewpoint. Everyone welcome on the Fiers bench.

Didnt realise you were as old as THAT Jan!!

This was Richard's 1st Crufts too. Followed by Earls Court with the long drag up and down the M1. There was the year the coach company got the date wrong and Richard, Carol(his 1st wife) Phil & Tina Moran-Healy were stood in the early hours of teh morning waiting for the caoch :D

YOUR Danish owners? Surely YOU aren't owned by any Danes are you? :p :p
