Did you know that on the Fosse Data website you can put in your postcode and you can get a list of all of the Crufts placed dogs within a specified area to that postcode. So for example if you ask to search within a 20 mile radius of your postcode then you will get the names, addresses and telephone numbers of owners of the dogs within that area. The breed, the class that they were placed in, the dogs name & titles (if any) and whether they are a dog or bitch.

Handy for any dog thieves isn't it. If any of you asked for your home address and telephone number to be withheld from the catalogue perhaps you'd like to check in case they are available to be viewed on the internet. I know that some people who asked for their details to be withheld are on the list.

I can't seem to find this!

How do you find it on Fosse data?

I always withhold my address. I will not be pleased if this is available for anyone to view.

Interesting to look at but I agree worrying.

I used to be a Data Protection Officer and, although I haven't access to the Law Schedules now, I think the KC is probably breaking the Data Protection Act. I would advise anyone worried about their details being published in this way to write/email the KC and ask them to be removed.

It has also occurred to me in the past, if people publish their post code on the web, e.g. on the Whippet Archives, their home property can actually be found on Google Earth.

This of course, gives a good idea of the location, site layout etc of a persons address, or very close home area.

What a thoroughly interesting but seemingly pointless and dangerous thing!

I have discovered a Whippet shower 3 miles away who I didn't know was there though!

Thanks BeeJay - didn't know this was available but now I do and so does everyone else who reads k9community.co.uk and how to access it

I know the KC did print FULL addresses on their own site for everyone to see back when Mary Belshaw was BOB (can't remember the year) and there were a lot of comments about it then.

I see this is meant for the press to contact winners in their area - more for advertising the KC in reality IMO.

I live in quite a remote area but have just discovered that my next door neighbour [as the crow flies-about 1/4 mile] has a St Bernard. Never seen it though

It's odd isn't it - there is apparently a plethora of show dogs right on my doorstep - and I live in the countryside...but I'd still question why this sort of thing is neccesary as people will publicise their own dogs - and local press aren't that interested in minor winners are they?

I am really concerned though that the law is being broken here...just having my old work hat on

Yes that is the issue. Mind you there is so much of we think of as personal information on the internet today. However if you know that it is there at least you can complain about it and try to get it removed and stop it from happening again, if you don't know then nothing gets done IMO. This is one of those damned if you do post about it and damned if you don't topics. :(

I've just found my details for William on it

How/can do you get them removed?

Surely if you withhold you name and adress then it is wrong that this should be openly available I always with hold my address

I have just emailed them, expressing my concerns. I'll let you know what they say but might be an idea to email them as well, the more they get, the more likely they are to act (hopefully).

Can you let me know how you get on as i have found Keano's details on there too

This seems to be Crufts responsibility not Fosse Data. So it is an email to the KC that is needed if you feel any rules are being flouted.

Can somebody please tell me how you get onto that link from Fossedata?

I note that full addresses are not given but postcodes are.

Juley and all concerned

I really think that everyone should write/email the Kennel Club and/or fossedata.

It doesn't concern me in this case, but my name /address etc was once published in a similar way by a magazine. I complained, mentioning Data Protection, and the site was soon removed.

I contacted the KC some time ago about a similar thing and they weren't interested to be honest.

Maybe their attitude has changed, but unless it's something that's going to make them money, they wash their hands of it in the main!

Just my humble (and maybe rather cynical) opinion!

City/County/Postcode and phone number - that to me is WAY too much and does contravene the Data Protection act to my understanding. Rather than writing the KC who is in control of enforcing the Data Protection? Might be worth contacting them.

Personally I have my details in the catalogue. I dithered about whether or not, but I figured that if someone really wanted to find out, since I have a website they'll figure it out at if they REALLY want to. However for those who have 'opted out' I think it's awful that they're details are there for all and sundry - though is it an easy link to find or is it a link that only those 'in the know' would be able to find?

Just a thought.

An update, Fosse Data told me it is nothing to do with them and I shold contact the KC, which I have done. I'll let you know what they say!.

Agree with Pauline  , the KC are on dodgy ground with regard to data protection.

Now if we WANT to advertise those type of details on the world wide net that is our responsibilty but to have them done without knowledge is a bit worrying.
