I didn't manage to get to Crufts on Friday afterall for Hounds (work  ), so decided to go on the Saturday to see Utility (Miniature Schnauzers) instead.

Got there at 0800 hrs to beat the crowds (OH dropped me off at Stockport to catch the 0630 train...keen or what!). Got chatting to another lady who owns a cavalier...lovely to talk to a fellow dog lover.

It was great getting there so early before the masses turned up. Spent far too much money at my favourite stalls and still felt I hadn't got everything I set out for.

Finally worked my way round to the Miniature Schnauzer ring and watched all the dog judging.

Took some photos. OK I know....whippet lovers won't be beardie, hairy, yappy dog fans...but in case anyone is vaguely interested....

..this is what well groomed mini's look like (in case my pictures have been a bit misleading  ). Here's a lovely black and silver mini.

Here a front end view, so you can see all the grooming and trimming of the sides and leg furnishings........I've got so much work to do on Stanley :- "

Nice pictures Nicola - lovely dogs  I must admit that little wire haired black tan and white Fox Terrier from the terrier group could walk away with the prize tonight - a smashing little dog.

...and the winner really made my day....an overseas competitor won...and the round of applause from the crowds around the ring was huge.

It doesn't really show in this photo...as the cheering came when he was selected...here he is doing the lap of honour (excuse the rubbish photo...my camera can't cope with these lighting conditions)......

I think you could be right Janis....these terriers are groomed to perfection to highlight all the breed standard points....they always look so good in the ring...such feisty little things.

I love Schnauzers but I think Stanley's "everyday" look is best!!

I bet the tails get some getting used to.

Watching the group last night I was very surprised to hear the Akita called Japanese Akita. There is no such breed as a Japanese Akita!!

The Akita breed has been divided (at last) to Akita (American type,as seen in the group) and Japanese Akita-Inu (Japanese type). Both breeds were on discover dogs and really there is no need to make mistakes, a bit of reserch is all that is required. I know the presenters are busy but surely that Akita's handler would have put them straight.

Well I like the tails!! I thought the Airedale looked brilliant with his tail! And I thought that brindle dachshund was stunning!!

I don't mind the tails but do think that it will take some getting used to when the dictatorship ban docking  .

I liked Airedale as well.

Don't be so sure Nicola! ... I went along yesterday just to watch the Tibetan Terrier judging! :)

Your photos are lovely. I do like the mini schnauzers, they look so handsome with their smart trims (too much work for me there! ;) ).

Mollie ( mini schnauzer X JRT) says thank you for the lovely pix. So handsome

 I didn't even notice some of them weren't docked... Goes to show you do get used to it (tail docking has been banned here in Norway for a decade now).

Must admit though, I like them better with fairly straight tails as compared to the really curly, almost spitz-type tails you see on some.
