Thanks Oliverpliers.I think she's the best, but I am exceptionly biased.

Yes Kris, both are of my M.T. Bonnie, usually referred to as Monster or Bonster.

Do you still keep Manchesters ?

:D I'll remember you said that Vicky,in fact,I'll go and put you on my list now,for when we breed from her :D .

There isn't the greatest number of them bred each year.In the last 10 yrs, apparently there has only been just over 100 registered with the K.C. twice.Normally it is about 80,with half of these from the one kennel.

The B.M.T.C.,is worried what will happen when this lady can no longer breed. They are actively encouraging new members to join, and peeps to breed from suitable bitches.

Mine is very sweet, but very hyper. She only runs everywhere, and frequently crashes into things, , she then gives herself a shake, and carries on running  .

I nearly didn't get to show her at Crufts,a few days before, she ran head first into my Dad's car tyre, putting her neck out  .

She actually showed well though, once her McTimmoney Chiropractitioner had treated her :- " .

So with there being so few do they tend to be quite closely bred or do breeders go out of this country for fresh stock?

Oooooh very interested now, was only talking about mt's tonight with my grandad about the lack of them!

I got mine from Brenda Banting (Indicott), her father was bred by Margaret Evans (Twisel), so she's got mostly those, also Keyline,Eaglespur,Hardway and a little bit of Coombelane.

A shame you don't still breed them :( ,what was/is your affix ?

Were yours mental ?

My mum (hi mum!) :D bought me a manchester terrier when I was 4 years old I had her until she was 18 and she was a brilliant dog!!! It has took me until now (10 years later)to have another dog of my own (one of my husband's dogs' pups) little white and fawn male whippy. I still miss her and I was looking out for the manchesters at Crufts. Lyd your dog's are beautiful! It's funny really that these 2 exellent breeds of dog are becoming scarce but I suppose there one of life's best kept secrets!

yep apart from our first bitch gypsy who was lovely.the rest were psycho!i remember dorothy norman of the coomberlane mannies,i used one of her dogs at stud on gypsy an showed a couple of the pups who won tickets.her show name was whitgift wheatear, from grimsby.she produced ch.geifang geminesse jw,geifang grafitti geifang general etc etc cant remember all their wins as they were owned by different folk including vic anton who was on committee of manchester ch show, geminesse was the dam of one or two championgs for pauline an trevor gore

ch jabeldy jade was the bitch pauline kept there was a dog who was made up too but i cant remember his name

Hmm, I'm actually very new in M.T.'s Vicky.Depending on who you speak to,would make a big difference on the reply.

The next is what I've been told,I haven't yet formed my own opinion, but suspect that this is true.

The majority are very closely bred, soon, there is going to be trouble with the gene pool.Apparently, peeps in Manchesters use the current winner over and over again.

Ella Eva,reckons mine is the only young M.T. who is the correct height being shown.Brenda and Margaret have tried to outcross more than some in the breed.Sometimes,a dog/bitch is exported,so there are some new lines coming in.

Bonster resembles the M.T. bitches who are shown in the open classes, and veteran classes, more than the ones in her age group.

When I contacted the M.T. puppy list person for one,I was told there was at least a 2 year wait for a bitch pup. This was about Oct. 2002.

At a Champ show, L.K.A. 2002,I spent the day with the M.T. people, and was given Brenda's phone no by Margaret.

These lines were recomended to me,by the B.M.T.C.'s secretary,as having excellent temperments.

When I contacted Brenda, she was expecting a litter in Jan.I was 3rd in line for a bitch pup.

Bonnie's mum only had 1 bitch pup, when Brenda rang to tell me,I was gutted. Then she said,I sounded like the best home,so if I was still interested, and wanted to come and see her,do.If you like her,you can have her.

Well when we went to see her,she was identical to her bruv's apart from being a wee bit smaller, slightly more feminine. We liked all of them, but her bruv's were really feisty.Well, we got her and I love her to bits.

She's feisty enough to defend me,but very loving, affectionate and friendly. Not all M.T.'s are as friendly as her,but the majority are.

In all seriousness,if you did want one,and didn't fancy one from Bonster,or the wait,I could put you in touch with some of the peeps who are breeding this year.

Lyd

Kris, have you got any pics of them that you could post ?

They definitely are special little dogs, although I'm a bit disapointed that most of yours were psycho as well.I was hoping it was only mine, and her pups might be calmer :b

No chance there then eh :clown:

Lyd

Sounds like there will soon be big problems then. I might be a bit naive but maybe the breeders need to forget about breeding mainly for showing to build up the numbers then start to breed back to standards again once there are enough mt's knocking about.

So how old is yours & when do you plan to breed from her?

i thought when i saw the piccies that yours was one of the few correct sized ones ive seen in ages.a well known breeder in the breed who had a lot of influence was breeding very large mannies for years an in my opinion was spoiling the breed they were well over sized.i can always remember being at a ch sh an a newcomer coming up to me who had recently bought one of these over sized dogs from said well known breeder, talking an saying oh yes your the one who breeds all those small ones,i retorted no dear,im the one who breeds all those correct sized ones,i breed to the standard.exit one very quiet newcomer! :p

sorry havent got a camera to post any piccies,i must admit they werent as bad as im saying im just kidding!their temperament is standoffish, but ours were calm and courageous (theyd flatten my dobes!)though as pups of course they were a little psycho!all of ours went as family pets first an foremost an at that they excelled.the only probs i had with them was that typically of terriers they wouldnt back down, not even to a lion! :D
