Crusty growths around nose, lips and eyes

Hi,

My JRT is 16 and he has developed crusty formations around his lips, nose and eyes. They keep growing and after a few days they fall off leaving an open lesion with some blood.

The vet put him on antibiotics thinking it could be a bacterial infection, but there have been no improvements. He is now on a topic cream which should prevent the immune system to attack the tissues. This is because the vet suspects it might be an auto immune reaction.

Has anyone seen anything like this, and has experience in what might cause it, and possibly how to cure it?

I'm sorry I haven't had any experience of an issue like this so can't offer any advice...I do hope the cream helps. Please don't be afraid to ask your vet to explain things better if you're not sure. I know sometimes they say all this stuff to you and it's only when you leave you think of questions to ask or you realize you could do with a bit more information.
