Cushings symptoms?

Hi all,

I have a Bichon Frise who is 12 years old. He has Cushing's disease and has really deteriorated recently. He has started to rip into his paws whilst crying because they must be very itchy. The itch seems unbearable for him and he cries just trying to lick his paws but I can't take the cone off as his paws are bleeding as it is.
He is still eating/drinking and going to the bathroom but he is covered in lumps which bleed when he chews them and just whimpers all day over his paws.

Does anyone know what these lumps are?

The vet doesn’t seem to know/tell what the lumps are.

Welcome to the forum sorry to hear of your problems. My first thought is if your vet can't help, try another vet if you can for another opinion. My dog suffers from itchiness, which slowly seems to be residing, and to help him he was put on Apoquel which really helped (he scratched and chewed himself a lot, and still does, but just for short bursts). It is also an immune system suppressant too, so something to bear mindful of. I don't know anything about Cushing's disease - other than what I've just searched on - and as I'm not a vet can't tell you if Apoquel is compatible.

I'm afraid I can't offer anything regarding the photos, is this where he has been chewing? Could it be as a result of that? You'll have more some more informative replies soon, I'm sure.

The poor thing :-( I agree with arealhuman - if your vet can't help, ask for a referral. Or ask local dog owners if they can recommend a good vet. Even if it might be difficult to find the right cause, the priority is to alleviate his discomfort.
