Took Tilly for a walk in the woods today and she found a greyhound to run with :D . They were running up and down the river inbankment and Tilly slipped. She went all quiet :( so i took her home, i put her in the bath and found this.........

What can i do, i dont really want to take her to the vets, its not bleeding but it is an open wound, hope you can see it ok....

Hope this has worked :b

I would wash it with lots of boiled (but cool) water then put some gentle antiseptic on it

Slap the lavender on,it will make it heal quickly & it's anti bacterial

is that like the lavinder oil you just in the oil burner lamp things?????

I will wash it and apply, i only have gremaline (sp) or the pure lav oil stuff.....

Yep,pure lavender oil,you can put it on neat,it doesn't sting & it will help to stop Tilly licking at it as they don't like the taste!

Brill thanks so much........i dont mind if it leaves a mark shes no show girl :- "

I use a product called cut and heal. It is really good and seeems to make a cut heal much faster, you can get it in a spray or a liquid.

Hi,

Hope Tilly  gets better soon!!!

I usually wash cuts out with hibiscrub, then use a herbal antiseptic cream.

[HOPE TILLY HEALS SOON,we here have used cooled boiled water with salt in it,its one of natures best healers.Wash the wound out and press the skin together till it meets and bind it gently, even though the cut did not bleed it may need stitching by a vet. :luck:

[0n closer inspection of the wound it looks very much like a skin graze, it looks like it does not need stitching, wash it with salt water & dry it & then apply a sterile wound powder from any chemist.Like you said a scar will be left but we hope tilly :luck:

I would use Sudocrem, the stuff for babies bottoms!

Its fantastic stuff.

I have just read your post. Sid got bit by another dog this morning while out with my oh - exactly the same would as Tilly - not bleeding but an open would. I have been wondering all day should I take him to the vet - and after seeing Tillys wound it is the same. I have been bathing it in salt water and aloe vera.

I expect like me you have felt sick all day and upset. Sid keeps licking his wound does Tilly? And doesn't it look just awful. I tried putting a dresssing on but it just kept coming off. Have been reading about the lavender oil so will give it a try.

Hope Tilly heals up soon - do you think they will be scarred? If ever they meet up they can compare "war wounds".

I use Colloidal Silver for all that kind of thing - it helps heal nicely and doesn't matter if it gets licked.

Hard to say for sure from the pic but I agree, it looks most like a graze. A teaspoon of salt dissolved in a pint of warm water makes a really gentle antiseptic solution you can use to wash it clean, then apply a thin layer of Sudocrem, it should heal ok. If it's not making good progress or if it becomes red and inflamed, see your vet. :luck:

the cleanest thing you can apply is the dogs tongue.the dogs saliva is antibacterial and will keep the wound clean and help it to heal.unlike our saliva which is positively loaded with nasty bacteria! (w00t)

I thought that, but my vet says a dog will infect its wounds by licking it. I suppose if you consider what it licked last....................... :- "

I'm inclined to agree - dogs can cause infection and granuloma formation by being allowed to lick excessively - not every dog obviously, but it can considerably slow wound healing. :(
